Draft Possibilities and Dewayne Robertson

Peppers going to any of those teams is pretty slim. He'd need some serious persuading that they will be contenders this year and not a work in progress.

houston an green bay arent that far away from being in the thick of the playoff hunt next year, especially if they get a talent like peppers...now oakland is a different story

If Peppers ultimate goal is to play for a Super Bowl team, why wouldn't he just stay here? We have as a good shot coming off a 12-4 regular season and he would have no guarantees going anywhere else. I think Peppers is being much more selfish than wanting to meet team goals, I think it's personal goals he's looking for. JMO...

If he were to wind up pulling a "Tiki Barber" (i.e. leaving the year before the team wins the big one) the laughter coming from Charlotte, and this board in particular, would be deafening.

Of course, if he goes somewhere and wins a ring, the wailing will be just as loud :(

Absolutely on the mark!

I'm just not convinced that Peppers cares about that and I've been an adamant Peppers supporter over the years. I still don't think that we should crucify him for wanting to move, just questioning his motivation...

So what that just means we get a solid backup for cheap. He can take 25-30% of the snaps when Kemo needs a break. I like the idea personally if we can get him at a good price. I don't want to have to bring in a rook, groom him for 3-4 years, and wait on production. We need someone who can come in and take some pressure off of our two starters and Robertson could be the best option in FA. Either Robertson, Rocky Bernard, Jovan Haye (ironic right?), or another seasoned vet should come in. Using another draft pick on a DT is not what I want would advise...

If his knees give out completely the season we acquire him, it would be a big waste. We would end up wasting money on him when we could get someone else who is less of a risk.

We have a need at DT. We have seasoned vets. We don't have effective ones. And with Lewis coming back from surgery, and Kemo being nearly a nonfactor in the pass rush, we need an effective DT that is capable of STARTING, not backing up and coming in for 25% of the snaps.

Honestly, I think we have to get DT from the draft. Although there aren't as many big names out there, I would have to remind you that not many knew about Godfrey last year, and he ended up starting for us all season.

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
