Chud's Bible (Playbook)

Recommended Posts

Save me from looking it up. Was Beathard in charge then?

(I'm thinking that was under Butler, but I want to be sure)

I had it argued to me recently in another thread that we don't know for certain if Chudzinski plans to run a Coryell offense :sosp:

(personally I'd put the odds of it being anything else as a tad...small)

01 was Butler's first draft.

As for your devil's advocate point, unless he goes back to his "U" days when he was OC there, that would be the only other real feasible thing. Of course that being said, watch Larry Coker have some 2 degrees to Coryell that I don't know about.

lulz lulz lulz, go watch the extended version of cam's Gruden qb camp right now.... (spoiler: he reveals that his college playbook was on par with most pee wee football teams, and even some of them could give the Auburn playbook a run for its money. He then goes on to compare himself to a firearm, as in pistol, pistola, gun, etc.) Perfect year for that sh*t stain Luck to stay in school I might add, fml.

He never said that plays were like a pee wee team...he just said that he didn't have to call plays in the huddle, but instead got a number from the sidelines. He still had to know how to run the play though. At least half the QB's in college are doing the same thing. You rarely see a spread team huddle up.

Well, Coker served under Butch Davis, a coaching colleague of Norv Turner with the Cowboys, so "two degrees" is correct

Just because the playbook is 900 pages long doesn't mean the QB needs to actually know 900 pages of plays at one given time. That is what preperation and game plans are for.

Also, the QB is expected to know plays and make decisions on field, based on what they see the defense doing. This doesn't require knowledge of a 900 page playbook. A simple audible to a run does not require that much knowledge.

I think Newton is smart enough to not "dumb down" the playbook, but rather work with him on specific plays for a certain game out of the playbook. Rock solid knowledge of audibles out of certain spread is all he will need, not knowledge of 900 plays all at once.

You just described "dumbing down the playbook".

Haven't read this tread past the first several posts.

Been avoiding this thread since it's beginning, cause honestly, who out there actually knows what Chud's playbook is like? We can make assumptions based upon his college playing days...but there are major issues to doing that.

We can make the assumption that he'll be bringing a good part of the chargers playbook with him...but considering it wasn't his offense....how much would he bring, and how much would he change?

Fact is, nobody outside of the Panthers knows what the playbook looks like...and it can easily be argued not that many know within the Panthers. Hurney, Richardson if he so desires to know, the coaching staff, and perhaps some of the offensive players.

It can easily be argued that the staff has been so busy with getting to know their new players, and getting ready for the draft, that said playbook may be nothing more than a dozen pages at this time. As the rest of the playbook will continue to develop throughout the rest of the off-season, and when the players can actually be with the team.

I'm sure Chud has tons of plays that he has collected over the years...but how he puts them together for this team, is far from a done deal.
