Um, it's kinda hard to say without spoiling poo. But, he rises as far as a bastard can rise.

I like the way his character sets up(again I am just a tv guy). Bastard child, yet IMO the most badass of the sons, at this point a mysterious unknown mother that would have to be talked about later......he just seems like he should kick some major ass down the road

Jon def has one of the better character arcs in the series - second to Jaime IMO.

IMO, the main charachters, in order of screen time, would be

1. Jon Snow

2. Dany Targaryan

3 Bran Stark (he becomes really important later in the series)

4. Tyrion Lannister

5. Arya Stark

Of course there are a lot of other characters with major roles too, but I think that these are the 5 main storylines.

they don't expand on it in the tv show, but pieces of the first book has lead many to speculate that jon snow is really the son of alana stark (ned's sister that robert baratheon was in love with) and rhaegar targaryen, which would give jon snow claim to the throne

she was "kidnapped" by rhaegar targaryen, the crown prince and next in line for the iron throne, which started the war that led to robert becoming king

based on that, i happen to believe jon snow is the bastard son of rhaegar and not ned stark

but you really can't tell in this world, and ned took that secret to his grave

Rhaegar also named her the queen of love and beauty when he won his big tourney (at Harrenhal?) Either way, I'm not sure that A+R=J, because of how each Targaryen has the Targaryen look, and Jon doesn't. (The Stark genetics aren't very strong, because Sansa and Robb neither have the Stark look, they have the Tully look.)

Finished "A Storm of Swords" today. Probably one of the best books I've ever read.

I'd have to agree with, if we were speaking scientifically. But, after all of the emphasis on how Robert's bastards (and all Baratheon's) are born with the same similar look. And it was noted that way for generations and generations.

It seems very... I don't know, hard to believe, that this one person would go against everything that has been set-up thus far along the series.
