If Newton's in and Smitty's Gone

I say we're targeting both a TE and a WR in this draft. Whether it be a Julius Thomas, Edmund Gates, Lance Kendricks, Luke Stocker....

but a few names at other positions do I see on our radar: Kendricks Ellis (DT, Hampton), Shareece Wright (CB, USC), Drake Nevis (DT, LSU), Curtis Brown (CB, Texas)

Look out for these names.

We don't really need to take another WR already, we have 3 young guys, two of which showed they are very capable.

Because of this, I have a feeling that we do NOT need to take a WR even if Smith leaves... I'd like to get another pick for Smith, but its not possible. So whatever we get for Smith assuming he walks this year is a pick next year, most likely a 3rd.

If Newton is in and Smitty is gone then you have a good idea of what Smitty thinks about Newton's ability to get him his stats.

Very true. IF Cams in and Smitty's out, who in the hell is our #1 WR. Obviously we wouldn't have a true #1 and that's just setting Cam up to fail even more than before.

I mean don't get me wrong, I like Gettis and LaFell but they are worlds apart from the play that Smitty brings. Smitty would usually get double teamed the entire game, but with no solid deep threat then the defense wouldn't need to double any WR and have an extra guy in the box to stop Cam from rushing every play.

This is gonna be a sticky situation if Smitty does leave this year.

if/when smith is gone this year, we'll be going after the best FA WR available. we'll have the cash and an owner whose willing/determined to open up the purse strings after last year, plus a GM and coaching staff who have to give newton the best weapons possible.

we have enough youth at WR and there will be much better FAs available than what is in the draft after green and jones.

we might take a late round flyer, but i don't see it being a priority in this draft. better to look for someone with experience...esp. someone that can pick up/take off where smith left off.

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
