We do not need to be mortgaging our future again...

We made a huge mistake last year by trading away our second round pick. The only logical way we trade into the 2nd round again is to trade away our first next year.

If we do that the whole Front Office of the Panthers needs to go ahead and quit.

Imagine us with a top 5 pick next year in the hands of another Team.

Say No to moving up into the second round.

why was it a mistake? Isn't a 2nd round pick worth 1 rush for 7 yards?

I don't see how it has to be a first round. The first pick in the third this year and a second next year seems reasonable and something I could live with. It might even be a third from next year and our first pick in the third this year for say a mid to late second. Trading a first? I am with you that is idiocy, but I sure hope there are other possibilities.

I don't understand that, if you can live without our second next year why can't we live without it this year? We desperately need a second round pick and if we just keep on trading and swapping picks to make up for other picks we previously traded we're going to be in one hell of a hole eventually. I want us in the second (particularly to take Marvin Austin) but it's not worth it unless some team out there is dumb as rocks. Just one year I want to go into the draft with all our picks firmly intact.

Yes but the problem here is to stop doing stupid trades, not trading in general, whether that is regarding preset or future picks. The problem isn't us trading, it's how we trade. Plenty of teams take full advantage in trading and use it to their advantage. For a team that 'builds through through draft' that is very important (see patriots, eagles, steelers).

I am not saying always trade away the future, I am saying invest in trading and exploit it to your advantage rather than always being on the back end.

Im down with that. But that usually means trading down, accumulating picks and using those to your advantage. So you basically just disagreed with yourself.

Armanti could still pan out. He was a rookie learning a new position with a coach who didnt want to play him. But you dont mortgage your future for a player that might be good in 3-4 years.

Honestly even if it panned out I would not want us to make a trade into the top half of the 2nd round.

If Armanti had panned out, this wouldn't even be an issue.

It'd still be an issue. I don't think we need to take WR this draft, if LaFell and Gettis continue to grow we can supplement that position through the free agency. We still need a DT and I fear that our best choices there are in the second.

I can see that now lol...I guess my original statement assumes Hurney feels there is a player worth trading for and he is determined on doing it anyways. If we have to trade, it better me at least reasonable. I guess my whole original point was damage control with Hurney and then kind of turned into hat I think Hurney should be doing even though I really don't think he will. He will move up, just make it reasonable and we will be ok. Stop the stupid trading.

    • I would write “give remmers tight end help” on a yellow sticky note and stuck it in shulas playbook the night before superbowl 50.
    • And don’t worry about Bryce he will be great… Peyton Manning had a horrible rookie year too 😂
    • Nothing wrong with it at all until you start telling others they are bad fans or not fans. But you are the good fan because you never say negative stuff about the team.    I did many years of that type of uninformed fanning because there really was no info and coverage like there is with the internet.    I mean, I used to go to the store and get Street and Smith’s annual football issue. That was about the extent of what you could get if you didn’t live in a big city with sportswriters covering and reporting.  There was no video to look at or replay the games and if you didn’t live in the market you could only rarely see your football team play.    TI have fanned since being a kid in the early 1960s, and as late as 1995 - ‘97 I lived in Atlanta and good luck getting more than 3 or 4 games a year on TV. No radio either. No print coverage outside of an AP recap and box unless they played Atlanta.  People today that have always had the network connection don’t know.    I wasn’t very educated about the Panthers until I finally got internet.
