The "Get To Know Cam Newton" Thread

What's funny is that by all accounts he's a better QB out of college than either Vick, taller, had more play calling resposibility and didn't garner near the attention as the other two.

I don't get it.

He isn't the playmaker Vick was.

The kid's got everything exept ideal height, I like that he's refusing to change positions.

Yeah, I was a fan throughout the season but after the Year of the QB on ESPN I was pulling for him to stay at QB and excel at it on the next's level.

Not with his feet, but he's a far better passer and twice the man Vick, both of them, was when he came out.

Tyrod is a good kid with a clean background, hope he gets a legit shot in Balt.

Yeah well Vick had the ability to sell tickets and put butts in seats.

Tyrod not so much.

over Joe Flacco???? come on. Joe Flacco is the starter, BUT maybe Tyrod Taylor can develop behind him and become a great QB in time and then go to another team, i just cant see Taylor seriously coming in and taking Flacco's job. that is like saying Mallett will go in and immediatly be in a QB competition to take Brady's job, Mallett could be great, but Brady is great. the only rookie passers who have the chance to win jobs this year are the ones taken in round one and two. Newton will likely start when Clausen is traded for a 6th round pick or released, Ponder will start unless a vet. is signed, Locker will back up and in time take Collins' job if they keep him for 2 years like they should, Gabbert will back up Garrard until the Jags are out of the playoff hunt, Dalton will compete for the job right away unless Carson changes his mind and Kaepernick will backup Alex Smith and start if Smith doesnt improve.

Who in the world said anything about him starting ahead of Flacco? He won't even challenge Flacco and that wasn't the point, thanks for playing along newb.

If he can play like McNabb he has the ability to be a HOF'er. McNabb was always very mobile, but usually exhausted his options in the pocket before bailing and using his legs. If Cam can A. Learn the playbook B. Make multiple reads and C. Not leave the pocket prematurely then the kid has a legit shot at greatness.

Though as big as some LB's I do want him to learn to slide feet first and take care of his body.

I can honestly say I'm excited about the possibilities with Cam.

he's as big as DEs. he dwarfs pretty much every LB in the NFCS and most in the league.

i know what you mean, though.

you wrote you hope he gets a legit shot in Baltimore, so i assumed you wanted him to start, he will be groomed there though.

    • It really isn't though If you were to go out to a bar every week of the season, even to just watch one batch of games, i.e. just the 1 pm or just the 4 pm, and spent only $30 a week, you're looking at $540 bucks, $510 if you're just going for the 17 weeks your team is playing, assuming no national games. Also, from past experience, it's hard to spend only 30 bucks if you're at a bar for 3+ hours to watch the game.  Even just a small appetizer, a meal, and say 2 beers was going to run you $40ish, and that was back in 2019 when I used to go to BWW to watch all our games pre the Covid year when I just started finding streams and stuck with that until YouTube got the package from DirecTV. At $450 for a full season, to be able to watch every game, to be able to make your own quad box, to be able to switch between the sound for any game (at a bar in Michigan, I would never get to hear the commentary on our games)... It's really not a bad deal, and that's if you're only watching your team's games.  If you're a fantasy football junkie like myself, then it's a flat out steal, as depending on your TV set up, you can get every game from your fantasy matchup playing.  I do a projector with a quad box on it, a local game on the TV, and then if needed, I can put another game on my laptop and another on my phone.
    • He has looked worse than Bryce has looked on his worse days since entering the nfl, maybe he will do something for the panthers but trask or zappe woule have been preferred.
