QB Jersey Numbers

Recommended Posts

All the talk about a number for Cam Newton got me thinking, what is the most successful quarterback number in the NFL. Here is what I cam up with.

#7- 13 (Notable: Matt Cassel, Ben Roethlisberger, Michael Vick)

#5- 11 (Notable: Joe Flacco, Josh Freeman, Donovan McNabb)

#8- 10 (Notable: Matt Schaub, Sam Bradford, Matt Hasselbeck)

#10- 9 Notable: Eli Manning)

#9- 9 (Notable: David Garrard, Drew Brees, Tony Romo)

#12- 8 (Notable: Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers)

#3- 8 (Notable: Matt Moore)

#4- 8 (Notable: Kevin Kolb)

#6- 7 (Notable: Mark Sanchez, Jay Cutler)

#14- 4 (Notable: Ryan Fitzpatrick)

#16- 4 (Notable: Tony Pike)

#11- 4 (Notable: Kellen Clemens)

#2- 3 (Notable: Matt Ryan)

#17- 2 (Notable: Philip Rivers)

#18- 2 (Notable: Peyton Manning)

#19- 2 (Notable: John Skelton)

#1- 1 (Notable: Troy Smith)

#13- 1 (Notable: J.T. O'Sullivan)

#15- 1 (Notable: The Golden Calf of Bristol)

Super Bowl Wins by Number

#12 X15 (Tom Brady, Trent Dilfer, Stan Humphries, Terry Bradshaw, Rodger Staubach, Ken Stabler, Bob Griese, Joe Namath)

#16 X8 (Mark Rypien, Joe Montana, Jim Plunkett, Len Dawson)

#7 X6 (Ben Roethlisberger, John Elway, Joe Theismann)

#15 X4(Jeff Hostetler, Earl Morrall, Bart Starr)

#8 X3(Troy Aikman)

#9 X2 (Drew Brees, Jim McMahon)

#18 (Peyton Manning)

#17 (Doug Williams)

#14 (Brad Johnson)

#13 (Kurt Warner)

#10 (Eli Manning)

#4 (Brett Favre)

With that said, what number would you like to see Cam Newton in next year? If he doesn't get #2, I personally think #5 or #15 would suit Newton well.

Note: #12 is without a doubt the most successful number, maybe Cam should pay Gettis for #12

What do you guys think?

I assume this is a list of the numbers of each QB in the NFL? That would make it a "what number is more popular" discussion and not a "which is more successful"

If you want to make a list of the number of the QB that won each Super Bowl, then you could have a "successful QB number" discussion.

The notable players are what I am basing the successfulness of each number on.

    • This guy pre-draft was saying he could take or leave football, and he seems to have been playing with that mentality ever since lol.
    • Agreed, another safety would be nice. Bud Clark, TCU, is one I would like to see us take a flyer on later in the draft, if he stays healthy and we don't take someone earlier. I just really hope we draft a solid C this year. Tired of seeing us cycle through average to below average players in that area.
    • Bryce doesn't like throwing into the middle of the field unless the play broke down or it's set up to give him a passing lane.  So because of this issue, most of the passing offense has to be outside the numbers towards the boundary. So you see him throw a lot of dump offs, swing routes, short side out routes, comebacks or deep balls outside the numbers using the boundary as protection of an interception.    Pretty easy for a NFL defense to see this and scheme against it.  All you have to do is run a shell cover 2 deep dime, LB plays a hook underneath, take the flat away with a blitz/flat zone option for the two inside DB's, outside two DB's play hook zone underneath and carry anything deep.    Pretty much what NO ran to take away Rico while also limiting What Bryce can do as well.
