Camping Tents

Lumps

Yea yea yea I say that because back then I could tell you the oath off hand. I could tie 20 knots. I knew morse code. I could ake a compass and walk 10 miles out and come back. I could bike 25 miles and earn those achievements. Now days I couldn't run more than a couple miles, I have forgotten everything. I earned the eagle level being brought up hardcore by the Mormon church so I tend to put it in that area of memories that you don't want to remember.

Memories are coming back with all this camping research. I want this tent to last forever. I am liking the marmot limelight 3 or the NEMO p3. The half dome 4 I like but damn that is a lot of mesh.

Everyone likes Coleman, but I am talking backpack camping not car camping. I will be 5-15 miles away from a base camp. I hear about coleman leaks and what not, I don't want to be 10 miles out and have a fiberglass pole snap lol.

Understandable...........I've used Coleman for lots of car camping, but I've also used it when trapping, tagging, captureing, and medicating wildlife. Then again I'm broke and have to budget cash and utility (in all honesty I've owned two Coleman tents).

Niiiice. I am really glad to hear that becasue I really want to see a black bear. Not up close or anything of course. I have my pepper spray and foghorn ready lol. Is one a better option? I would assume the spray. And of course my trusty bowie. I also have odor bags and rope to hang my poo up 30 yards from my tent.

Primitive enough. I am not trying to go out there like rambo just yet. I'll probably be 7 or 8 miles from civilization, or a 'base camp'. I believe the most secluded and distant campground is almost 20 miles from a base camp and that would be my goal eventually. If you're that far out you can imagine how primitive, but I'm not breaking out the freeze dried or anything.

Any tips, recommended tent campsites by # or other areas is cool.

Yup your talking BFE and beyond. Give me some more info like Tennessee side, NC side or in the park. After that I will try to help you out with areas recommendations. Me personally I would probably get a camp site by a lake and hike / drive into places.

I did a 2 week stint in the Southern Rockies last summer, and I used an REI.

I have used REI, Sierra, and Eureka backpacking tents before, but it's not the tent that concerns me. As long as the tent is relatively light and compact, I'm fine with it.

Make sure you have a good backpack that fits you well, or else it'll be hell.

But above all, make sure you have good, comfortable boots already broken in before you go. I preferred hiking in my sneakers at points, but it's definitely a lot safer and better for your feet with a nice pair of boots.

Good luck though!
