Verizon is doing away with unlimited data plans

Android Central says it's nabbed an official document laying out the brand new Verizon data plans scheduled to take effect next month, and there's good news for those of you currently using an iPhone on Verizon with an unlimited plan: It looks like you'll be grandfathered in.

We weren't quite sure if that would happen yesterday, but if this document is real, Verizon will be going the way of AT&T and allowing those with unlimited data plans to keep them (presumably as long as they're not changed or added on to any other deals).

Elsewhere on the deals, the smartphone plan will start at 2GB for $30 a month, up to 10GB bandwidth for $80 a month. Mobile hotspot access costs $20 a month extra for 2GB on the hotspot.

Unlimited plans will still be available up to July 7, and those unlimited plans will continue even when you upgrade your phone in the future. So if you want to get in on an unlimited plan before the caps get put in, now's the time to do it. We'll keep ears open for official confirmation on this one, and you can read all the details over here.

Even though you are grandfathered in they will throttle your speeds if you use too much, at least that's what AT&T does from what I've heard.

I'm only on 3G but with Sprint I havent notice any throttling. For a while I used my cell phone to tether by modifying some files on the phone. I managed to download 50GB in a month and didn't hear any complaints.

wtf... talk about nickle and diming you for $20-80.. so other carriers already have this type of setup?

I'm severely disappointed in this.. then again I guess 5GB is quite a bit, but all month? I feel confident I use more than that.. maybe not, haven't really paid much attention.

my plan is up, so they'll change it next year regardless of my new contract?

curious if anyone uses their phone for the internet a lot and uses more than 5GB a month?

I use way more than 5 GB a month. I have sprint and the mobile hotspot and I use the hell out of it. Not to mention using it with mobile streaming apps like HBO Go, Jetflicks, etc.

I think it starts in 2 weeks actually

I may end up with a phone sooner than I wanted.. I use the hell out of some internet on my phone. I can't have a laptop every second of the day. spending $130 bones a month for my bill is enough of an expense... (everything unlimited..) spending $200/month, I better be getting a reach-around at least once per bill period.

yeah, I would think 5GB isn't that much..

And yeah I did acknowledge that Saints' fans have reason to be excited about him and complimented his poise, which is giving my props.  Still not sure I agree that he looks better than a "ton" of QBs nor do I think you or anyone have really demonstrated that.  I think you are generally one of the more reasonable level-headed posters which is why I'm confused at what I consider to be rather hyperbolic language about Shough.
    • I don't disagree with you, but want to point out that Tremble's strong suit has always been blocking. Case and point: on Horn's 25 yard run, he lays down not 1 but 2 nice blocks...and is looking for #3! https://www.panthers.com/video/jimmy-horn-jr-s-25-yard-run-gives-panthers-red-zone-access-on-first-drive
    • It is a popularity contest.  The selection does have meaning though. It is also 1 of the criteria that is considered for the HOF. The game does not have any significance. The team hasn't been to the playoffs in nearly a decade. That's why they don't get primetime national coverage. To the victors go the spoils.
