Lots of misinformation in this thread on Haynesworth contract.

When you trade for a player, the originally signing team has to fork over all of the signing bonus money to that player then. That leaves only the base salary, performance incentives, workout bonuses, and poison pills left for the acquiring team to pay.

So, the cost to any team acquiring Haynesworth is as follows:

2011: 5.4 mil

2012: 6.7 mil + 500k workout bonus

2013: 8.5 mil + 500k workout bonus + 20 mil discretionary bonus

2014 and 2015 are also part of the contract, but they are never meant to be realized. In 2013, Haynesworth gets cut.

So the cost to the Panthers to pay Haynesworth over the next two seasons would be 12.6 mil total. That's a good deal for a highly productive, team-oriented player, provided that he is highly productive and team-oriented.

Would not want Haynesworth on this team for free. He is a money-driven locker room cancer.

If Haynesworth is cut and we can sign him for a cheep short contract then Im all for it. He might just work out because he would be around fam and friends(if he has any) in carolina. No one can say he is not dominate when properly motivated and he would be working in a 4-3 again.

I jest of course. The panthers would not go for this deal, unless the skins gave up a draft pick and Fat Albert for Jimmy and a 7th. Then it hit me that it would actually be possible trade deal for both teams. Given that Albert actually cares to play and remains happy. He's a 4-3 guy, we are a 4-3 defense. To be honest both of the players have their quirks that it's a high risk trade for both teams. But we took a high risk on taking newton and hogan. So why not do this as well?

here's the deal, if the Panthers want him, then why dont they go after him??? i have heard rumors about Haynesworth and the panthers so far havent been involved. i dont think the panthers want him. a player for player swap with Haynesworth and Clausen would be a good deal for both teams, but i just dont think the panthers want Haynesworth.

This deal wouldn't make sense for the Panthers if they did want Haynesworth. I can't see the Panthers giving away a young QB for a lockerroom cancer and distraction. With Fat Al's rep and lousy work habits, not to mention his contract, the Panthers wouldn't touch this with a ten-foot pole. It would be the worse acquistion since Sean Gilbert.

well for me, it's not the giving away a young QB as it's i dont think the panthers want to gamble on a known quitter and a known character issue. Hogan may mature in the pros, Newton highly likely will mature in the pros, but Haynesworth is a pro and hasnt matured. he's being payed 100 million dollars and what does he do!!? he pouts and whines, most players would try hard and play if they were payed that well, but not Haynesworth. i think (if carolina traded for him) he would play better than Gilbert, if he's winning, but if the team is losing he wont play hard.

Haynesworth likely wont be cut, the redskins want something back for him even if it is small and as for a cheap contract, Haynesworth wont go for that. he will want to be paid good money.

trust me, i know his contract, it's ok to trade for him, but why would Carolina do it??? i havent even heard about them being involved in Haynesworth talks. as for it being a good deal, it is IF he wants to play and tries, HOWEVER he's proved that he isnt a team-oriented player, he can be highly productive. if he was a team player, he would play hard dispite being in a defense he hates, he's not team-oriented. he could be highly productive in any defense if he would try, but that's the issue, he didnt care, he played and got payed. if the panthers are winning, he will be a good player, but if they are losing he will not try hard.

rather have cullen jenkins than haynesworth.

hahaha, why do you think the Redskins are after Cullen Jenkins?? they also want Kris Jenkins, Kris to be the nose tackle (who would likely play limited snaps) and Cullen Jenkins will play end, BUT this all depends on if they sign them.

Well you have identified the risk with Haynesworth. Clearly he would be a bargain if he returns to All-Pro status. If he doesn't, then you are stuck with that headache of a player for 2 years.

the Redskins DO want to get rid of him and are willing to part with late round picks, my deal is though, do the panthers want him?? i dont think they do, i think there are possibly 2 or 3 teams intersted in trading for him.

pretty sure rivera can handle him and if he doesnt act right cut his ass.
