Decent read from USA Today - nice to get some national exposure.

"Life is a process," he said . "You've got to look at what things are important, how you've handled things, how things have transpired. I've never been afraid to admit mistakes. Some people may say he seems like he's always reflecting. I'm just telling how I feel and it is the truth.

Tuesday at TC, after it ended, all the guys walked out at that far corner.

We were standing further down the field towards the hill behind the fence watching him talk to a couple coaches for about 10 mins. We figure he would just get up and walk off, but he immediately walked over and started signing autographs for people.

Even had a little bit of conversation with us, talked to me about my official playoffs growl towel I had him sign. He said "man, this old school". A couple of us in the crowd said things along the line of yeah, but we will be back there very soon and you will be a big part of it.

He said earlier he was sorry for being an ass and I think he's really making the effort to pay attention to the fans and get back on the right track with the team. I have a feeling he's going to have a very big season.

Why revel in what could have been? Winning is going to be easier with 89 around... I cant wait to see what hes going to do... Smitty has always been good for a bailout throw from Jake, like to see what he does with Cams arm. I never really watched Cam, but watched some highlights, kid's got a cannon. Should be an exciting year...

Smith always starts off the year with the best of intentions. Lets see how long it lasts this time. He is always reflective in the offseason andat the beginning of the year. But his competitive fires end up interfering when things start to fall apart.

Just sayin................

have you ever seen him break up a fight before?

take the player to the side and calm them down? be the voice of reason?

just seems different in a great way

He has done that one of the last two camps. Can't remember who it was between.

Would love to have seen what he could've done with better QB play.....unfortunately the front office never bothered to give him that luxury....

Can you imagine his career under like a Brady or a Manning calibre quarterback? Geez, he's a beast and did it almost all on his own. I know that I'm beating a dead horse and this has been discussed several times over the years so take it easy on me.

And to think, this guy was told that he'd never be anything other than a kick returner. Did someone actually say this? I'll bet those words were eaten along with a lot of crow.

Smitty is and will probably always be my favorite Panther. He just needs to get back into the game and come out firing. It usually takes him a few games to really get into his groove. I am praying this year that he breaks off something big against the Cards. Don't they know that CATS eat birds?

Hopefully we can eat another bird in our division twice this year. Even if we don't win another game, I want to beat Atlanta. I can't stand Mike Smith but I do have alot of respect for Ryan and Gonzalez. Although I don't consider Gonzales a real Falcon.

Yep. He's a leader butr needs to lead by example. It pains me to say that because I love the guy. All of these kids drafted during SS's tenure have always looked up to Smitty with an "I want to be just like him" mentality. He's usually the first player that they talk about. Rookies love his spark...unless he's giving them poo about their mistakes.

    • I like what Freeling brings to the table all around. If he is willing to put in the work he has an opportunity to be one of the better Tackles in the league down the line. Hunter Brazzell and Hecht are all premium additions but development from our staff are the key to unlocking them. Hopefully Lee and Wheatley will provide much needed additional depth to our secondary. Beyond that it's important not to get too caught up in draft grades. Many drafts over the years that turned out to be really good were not fawned over with praise. While some that were ended up being historical duds. Panthers fans ought to know this as well as anyone. In conclusion...
    • Maybe a bit of a homer take but I can't give us a grade lower than A.   Freeling was arguably the best LT prospect in the draft.  His athletic ability is off the chart and at 6'7" that can move.  It was a no brainer pick.   Hunter's key word is Violence. Putting him next to Brown should scare an offensive coordinator. These two give Scourton and Phillips plenty of chances to get one on one opportunities. Brazzell, another tall receiver with sprinter speed.  Our WR room is filled with tall talented WR.  Brazzell is going to give us a WR that can take to roof off the defense.  Basically Jimmy Horn with size. W. Lee III has a nickname of the Blanket. (heard this on the Beleav podcast with J. Stewart)  What a great name.  A great value in the 5th round. Hecht A strong, fast and extremely smart center. Many had him listed as the best center in the draft.  He's most likely a starter sooner than later. Wheatley A good safety in round 5.  Someone who could see playing time.   Kuwatch  I love this pick.  At minimum he will be a key piece on special teams and with some good coaching he'll see some packages where he'll play.  His down piece is he doesn't stay up in the running game.  Good coaching will fix this.  He reminds me a bit of A.J. Klein.   All these picks were great value.  I believe everyone of them were graded higher than the pick we took them.   Dan Morgan is IMO doing a great job turning this team into a good team with great depth.
