A Closer look at Cam vs Dolphins

Those backfoot throws are so hard to watch at times.

Reminiscent of those times when Jake would just heave one. Those seconds in between are nerve wracking.

btw . . .

Why are people commenting on giving pie, that defeats the purpose of it doesnt it? :sosp:

EDIT: I guess thats not as bad as posting "ahh too much too read, Im a little slow", thanks we totally couldnt tell

So why was Clausen trumpeted as being a top NFL QB if it seemed as thou he just played decent in college? He's starting to sound like another Blaine Gabert. How does one determine which QB will succeed or fail in the NFL anyway, by their school and looks?

Cos if you watched the games (hell look at his stats his junior year) he tore it up. The problem was the defence couldn't hold up their end of the bargain.

IDK, never thought it. He is nothing but Brady Quinn pt. 2. Wierd that Wies could produce two QB exactly the same...

That is why I posted that Cam is a better student to teach cause he really has not been in one college long enough and under one coach's style of play long enough to form habits.

Anyway, I found it quite funny that many are sitting there disecting every ounce of Cam's game and is demanding he fix all of his issues while Blaine Gabbert, the QB who the Jaguars leapt up how many spots to get at number ten feels this way about his preseason game,

“I thought I played a little up and down,” Gabbert said. “There’s definitely things I can improve on. ... Missed a few throws, but you’re going to miss a few throws. You can’t be perfect on every snap.”
Only when ur name is Cam Newton.

If u sitting there harping over Cam's footworks and so called inaccuracies, then what would have done if Cam had played like this,

Gabbert, the 10th pick in the draft from Missouri, completed 11 of 23 passes for 96 yards in seven series. Gabbert was plagued by several drops by his receivers, including three on one series.
Noticed how the writer blamed the receivers for Blaine's drops but every drop for Cam was his fault.

which balls do you think were "drops" against the Dolphins?

Did you watch Gabbert vs the Falcons? His receivers really did drop a ton of passes.

edit: you do realize that you're talking about a fan response compared to an NFL.com generated response, right? There's... a hefty difference between the two.

Also, Cam is getting more attention because he's the #1 pick...

edit2: here's a link google provided me with a fan doing something like this for Gabbert http://forum.jaguars.com/index.php?showtopic=696157

and btw, some of their fans over there are already in panic mode because they're afraid gabbert will flop and they'll be sent to LA.

no, by watching how they play the game. what tools and skills they have. what areas they have improved on. what responsibilities they have in their offense.

the majority of the media was saying if we were taking a QB it was going to be cam newton. I don't know about fans wherever you are, but even around here there were only a very small number of people who wanted Gabbert. I am probably one of the bigger Gabbert fans here and I wanted to go defense #1 overall.

That's because they knew that the top ten teams really didn't want Gabbert but the Carolina's went above and beyond to make sure Cam was the real deal. Rivera even stated that Cam was the most vetted player they ever had. Especially with all the silly rumours that the media kept floating about in hopes of putting pressure and fear into the top teams so they wouldn't have picked Cam. My three top QBs were Jake, Mallett and Cam. I was very suspicious of Blaine and felt he was more hype because of his all american looks and not so much his talent.

This year was my first time watching and paying attention to the politics that was the NFL draft.

Here is a question, why is it that certain folks like Cam are constantly being told that what they do in college doesn't matter when they get to the NFL? If that is the case, why is everyone so hard up for Andrew Luck what he is doing, outside of college that is causing his stock to be so high in these so called expert's eyes?

I did...One thing that stood out was how many reps he had. I now see why him and Mallett are so accurate, but his sacks and interceptions seems high also. Cam barely cleared 3,000 for his one year at Auburn. Even if he had continue at that pace, he still wouldn't have matched Jimmy's 3 years.

It's a bit more complicated than "nothing you do in college matters." It's what skills you showcase and how they are supposed to project to the NFL level. The reason Luck is so high rated is because he's thought to be a very complete passer in terms of fundamentals, who makes good decisions, has good mobility, etc. You'd have to talk to actual scouts about the specifics. But a lot can change in a year, and what the media thinks of a guys ratings aren't always what teams think.

I'm not sure what ur talking about with the "fan's response." The article I took the quote from is part of an A/P release quote that showed up in more than one article.

Honestly, the dropped balls were blamed on his recievers from the first game also. So for both games he's been plagued by dropped balls by his receiver? And ironically, Blaine was plagued with dropped balls while he was in college also that was also blaimed on the receivers. So is it all the receiver's fault?

Anyway, the excessive attention and over-scrutinizing, which the media made public would continue with Cam even after he was drafted, was done the day he announced he was entering the draft. They used the excuse that since Cam was in the top five they felt that he had to be scrutinized. Funny, but I didn't recall Blaine receiving a third of the scrutiny Cam got and he was always associated with Cam through out the draft. So I'm not buying the, "he went #1 that's why we're over-scrutinizing him," BS. The media also didn't over-scrutinized Sam Bradford either and he was #1 too.

I assumed when you said in an earlier post:

Anyway, I found it quite funny that many are sitting there disecting every ounce of Cam's game

You were talking about this post, since you had previously said:

Seriously, did u guys even disected the plays of ur favorites during their preseason games as much as u have been doing to this kid.. OMG..

Then you linked some NFL.com article about Gabbert, where it expressly states that he didn't do much at all("Neither did much", referring to Gabbert & Garrard), but notes that the Jags were plagued by drop passes because they were. It was nothing like what we had happen to us vs. the Giants at all. So I linked you a post by a Jax fan that does something VERY SIMILAR to Gabbert, to prove it isn't just *fans here* that do this, but a common habit of people who follow a team.

Now you say the media is out to get Newton or some bullpoo. Well, it's not. He's been getting fair coverage by and large when it comes to NFL.com anyway, the source you used to claim they were singing Gabbert's praises. Let's take it a week back, shall we? Headlines are a big deal, as they often draw attention. So let's compare Gabbert and Newton.

Gabbert: Gabbert inconsistent at best in Jaguars' debut

Newton: Newton has up-and-down performance in NFL debut

Well ok... Kinda a wash... Not a major thing either way, right... Well what are some comments?

Jaguars rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert was more highly regarded -- he was taken with the 10th pick -- but had a rougher day, although he played the first half when the Patriots used some of their starters on defense.

Newton:

Cam Newton showed glimpses Saturday night of why the Carolina Panthers made him the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft, from the strong arm that zipped the ball downfield to the mobility that bought extra moments in a collapsing pocket. He also looked like a rookie quarterback struggling with his accuracy

Newton, the Heisman Trophy winner from Auburn, twice failed to get the Panthers into the end zone on promising first-half drives. But he also brought some big-play potential to the league's worst offense last season and a franchise in desperate need of a fresh start.

Yeah, man, that article is REALLY over scrutinizing Newton!

    • If I could pie more, I would. Fantastic
    • Well bois, we gave the Devils their due! Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery... The jersey boys have been trying to jack our steeze for a few years now. They've followed our blueprints and studied our tape. Every offseason, they pounce on our sloppy seconds in a Newark minute. Quick with the puck, ferocious on the forecheck and stifling team defense. Down to the colors, this is this closest we'll come to having to play ourselves in Ole Stanley's Hockey Hoedown. As the postseason began, Rod stood flexing in the gym mirror and saw this guy staring back from the void... (Shutters) When beating us at our game didn't work, Timo and the Tri-State Trash tried to tango instead. Outside of a bitchass cheapshot on Freddie, that poo didn't work either. Their goon squad was getting wrecked by our bantam weights. As much as we all wanted to see Svechy or Staal Bunyan literally break someone in half after the Great Dane went down, they didnt need to. Our munchkins were monsters! Jarvis obliterating giants at the blue line, Logan laying the Stank on dudes twice his size and Blakers blasting Timo into next season. It was beautiful to see! (Side note: Does JBlo wear lead weights under his pads? 170lbs shouldn't be able to hit that hard!) We closed it out in 5, for the gentleman's sweep. Only team in the league to win a series in each of the past 7(?) seasons! And, this was supposed to be a rebuilding year... Onto the awards: Key To The Series : 6 for 19 - .316% IT FINALLY WORKED!!! MVP : 16/180 g/s - .911 save% - 2.53 gaa Seriously, without this dude, we would've won in 3! (Trust me bro) 3rd Star : 6/94 g/s - .936 save % - 1.59 gaa The Great Dane   2nd Star : 3 g - 5 a - +1 - 20:38 toi/g - 18 hits - 3 bs - 58.1% fo 3 PP goals and the 2OT series winning goal! WOOAAAHHH NELLY!!!!   And, your 1st Star of the series : 5 g - 1 a - +3 - 16:48 toi/g - 16 hits - 1 bs - 1 tk - 50% fo Zero, I repeat, zero penalty minutes for the series! MISSSTAAAHHH SVEEECHNIKOOOV!!!!!! Onto The Next: Now, we wait for the Habs to make it a nasty 7 game slog, while we recuperate. And, hopefully, get Nikishin, and some of the other black aces some real peactice time. We are gonna need those guys at some point. Because, if you think the Devils were dirty, hoooo boy, wait till you see what's next...
