Deviated Septum

Anyone have one, or had one surgically repaired?

My ENT doesn't want to fix mine, but people with experience say it makes a pretty significant difference in breathing and overall quality of life.

Anyone?

I've had this for years, in the grand scheme of things this is very minor, just trying to fix what I can while I'm down.

This is a problem I created, my nose has been broken 11 times.

I have a pretty bad one. My left nostril is always stuffy because of it. The ENT prescribed Nasonex which made it so dry it would bleed. I stopped using it and went back to my old ways of claritin and sneeze attacks every morning because he said the operation is a last resort. Now I use local honey and don't have sneeze attacks any more. I'm still stuffy in the left side most of the time, but the right side makes up for it I think.

Two friends had the operation, and are both happy with the result. I'm not in a position to have it at this time.

I never remember being able to breathe through my nose prior to having sinus surgery. Now I can. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. Recovery is a bitch though.

My sister got hers fixed one summer when she was in high school... The recovery was pretty nasty, but I think she's glad she did it today...

Yea I got one. Left nostril is completely blocked off. Allergies just make it so much worse.

What makes the recovery so bad?

Just really painful?

Yeah it's really painful. It feels like they put you to sleep and repeatedly beat you in the face with a concrete block, shoved tampons up your nose and then woke you up and sent you home. Then the next day, you get to go and have them remove the tampons, and they just yank them out. Then about 2 weeks after that, you get to go get the plastic rings out. I've never been so miserable in the 6 weeks it took to recover from that.

I didn't just have a deviated septum, they also fixed several other things. I had polyps, large turbinates, and they cleaned and enlarged my sinuses so they would drain better.

Had it...think of it like the worst broken nose you've ever had. Both my eyes were black and it hurt like a broke nose hurts. Still, I'd do it again.
