Panthers avoid Blackout

I went to that Bengals game. Rodney Peete tore it up and Steve Smith was fascinating in the return game.

Hell Yeah! I was listening on streaming internet radio from the hinterlands of Alaska...seriously...

But I just wanted to point out that we won both of those games and both were extremely exciting games. The Baltimore game, that was the season opener. Peppers and Dan Morgan both had a major coming out party in that game. I'll never forget Del Rio running out onto the field and hugging those guys as the clock ticked down. It had been SO LONG since the team had won a game.

The offensive slugfest that was the Bengals game was a marvel of a game. Rodney Peete was otherworldly and Steve Smith did impress.

About 85% of the stadium is already sold from season ticket holders. The other 15% of the seats are usually way up in the upper level. Coming off a 2-14 season people just want to see what's going to happen before they buy tix. Everybody and their brother wanted to see Green Bay, in addition to all the Green Bay fans so there was big demand for that game.

As a Panthers fan, and if I didn't have season tickets, I would have been just as happy to avoid the rush for the GB game and grab a few of these Jags tix. Easier to get and cheaper too if you were buying on the secondary market. Plus a more winnable game.

As the price of going to a game continues to rise, it's still free to watch on TV. I think I remember JR once saying that if he had to do it over again, he would build the stadium about the size of Heinz Field---65k. Those last 7k seats in the worst part of the stadium are hard to sell sometimes with a losing team, low draw/traveling/fan base opponent, with a team that falls in the lower third in size for its media market (we're the 24th largest media market in the country).

how so? most teams have an issue where there is a few seats open and they say there might be a blackout but the seats get sold.

we don't have anything close to a history of blackouts occurring but most weeks there are several seats that haven't been sold and so they mention it. when the seats are bought they make that announcement.

nothing new.

much ado about nothing. there was no real threat of a blackout. the seats always get sold.

Please stop posting these facts. You know we were trying all have an overreact for no reason and piss and moan about the Panthers thread, and then you go and ruin it with your truths.

    • The best part is they compliment each other. Chuba is a more patient runner, patiently waiting for gaps to form while Rico is more explosive. I wish they would use Rico more like McCaffery was used - getting him the ball in space to take advantage of his explosivness and violence. Then have Chuba pound the middle for the tough yards.
    • I loved those late 90s-early 2000s Miami teams.  If McGahee hadn’t had that injury, he would probably have been a Top 10 all-time rusher, no doubt in my mind.  The fact he didn’t lose his leg below the knee is still a miracle.  And the fact he came back from that, made it in the NFL, and still carved out a career that included over 8k yards rushing and two pro bowls is damn impressive.  It just demonstrates how good he would have been had he never had the injury.  Prior to that, he was like nothing I had ever seen.  Like a bigger, more physical and elusive Reggie Bush.
    • Boozer may end up going higher in the draft, but agree about Caleb Wilson. Give me that dude, think he's going to translate very well and has the attitude I want on a young team.  My perfect world as of now... Trade anything not bolted down as far as vet's go. Sexton is on an expiring and would be an easy flip. Bridges, just get him somewhere else. One year left on a low $20 mil deal should be an easy trade...but the apron for many teams could haunt us.  LaMelo is the issue. Likely would have to trade our problem to someone else for their problem (Ja, Zion, Zach Lavine) to make contracts somewhat match up.  I want to build around last year's draft class, get as many bites at this draft class as possible, etc. If we get lucky and get #1 or #2, wonderful. If not, get into the top 5 or so and grab Caleb Wilson.
