Minor Roster Move

We are trading for Owen Schmidt so he can be re-unitied with Pat White on draft day.

That would be AWESOME.

Actually, I just read on rotoworld's blurb that they said he may have not reported to off-season workouts on time and thus was waived. Makes sense.

nvm it's been updated by Gnatt.

The Panthers have waived FB Nehemiah Broughton, the former Redskins blocker. He was just signed earlier this offseason.

(Updated 4:03 p.m.)His agent, Harold Lewis, said Tuesday that the move was salary cap driven, and that he hopes to be back with the Panthers soon. Apparently, they were so tight after paying some cap charges that were scheduled to hit (roster bonuses, incentives) that they needed to clear Broughton's $460,000 off the books for a few days.

You may now return to your regularly scheduled kvetching about Julius Peppers.

Clear waivers and then re-sign him.

I understand that part, but if we had to waive him for money reason's/ to get him off the books. Why would we only need to have him off the books for a few days. If we didn't have the money to keep him, then how are we going to have the money to resign him.

i love our front office..

do you know of any other team that would be able to dance around the line for so long?

you think Detroit or the Cowboys or anybody would be so stubborn and hang onto Pep, no matter how much of a bind it puts us in? if we had a lesser FO, Pep would be gone by now and we might only be sitting with a 2nd rounder in return.. but since we got Hurney, we are wiggling around so much more with so So SO much less..

haha, its kinda humorous..

its like teasing you little brother by putting your hand in his face and saying "im not touching you, im not touching you"

I agree. Whats about our cap situation is going to change in a few days that doesn't involve Peppers?

    • Does this mean only topics from within the last year or any topics with posts from the last year? i.e. if there are any old threads we feel should be kept around for whatever reasons, would a bump of that thread before the update ensure it's kept around in full or do the posts from more than a year old still disappear?
    • I'm more intrigued at him becoming our future LG. There were some people who thought he was better suited to be a guard in the NFL to begin with.  Then if Freeling ends up being a legit LT, moving Ickey to LG could give us an incredibly strong left side of our OL for years to come. Ickey has only played on the Left side his whole career, both in college and the NFL, so I just wonder if keeping him on the left side, even if shifting inside, would be better than putting him outside on the right side. Just hoping him growing up a Panthers fan will make him want to stay here and move positions than enter FA so he can stay at LT somewhere else, particularly since LT is the big money position on the OL, so he likely can get paid more by someone else to play LT than play LG or RT here for us.
