Perspective: The day in review

Tom Brady threw 4 picks, less than 400 yards (386), and lost.

Andy Dalton threw 2 picks, similar passing yards to Cam, 0tds, looked smaller than the room, only scored 8 points, and lost.

Drew Brees won, but he threw 2 picks.

Gabbert looked decent for his first start.

Cam Newton had a rough day, was wild passing early on, but still managed to complete 53% of his passes, barely cross 1,000 yards in his first 3 games, and get the win.

In other words, all these QBs are human. Cam was bound to have a bad game sooner or later, and for how bad he was for most of the game, the two he's been mentioned in the same sentence with the most this season (Brady & Dalton) also had off games, so the storyline tomorrow will probably be "off games" for many QBs, instead of just "Cam falls back to earth".

Good day, overall.

You know what's sad? Clausen is 1-0 against arizona... just saying.

What I don't get is why do people keep putting clausen down, he's not even suiting up anymore. Leave the kid alone.

because he is not good.

SO Oracle you are done venting in the game day thread I see.Valid points, all qbs have bad games. We can't expect 300+ passing yards every game.

Which is why I keep asking why they don't move Clausen (practice squad or whatever) and get a player in a position of need that will actually see the field every week.

So what if he doesn't suit up...you don't need to defend "the kid" he is a grown man, a professional. We can make fun of him if we choose to.

I'm putting things in perspective. People were congratulating Clausen last season after that game saying he finally proved he could be the long-term answer for this team. That was his best game of the season and it was worse than Cam's worst game so far. I basically want people to shut up about how Cam played poorly today. Yes, he played poorly for most of the game, but he still ended up having a good game overall with a 4th quarter comeback W.

I'll reserve the same right to defend "the kid" from douche bags that keep bringing up how much he sucks when this was last year and he isn't even relevant anymore. It's pathetic and sad to clown on a guy that's not even seeing the field.

I dont think that Cam had a 'bad' game today, just a realistic one. He made enough plays today when it mattered for us to win. He probably should have thrown an INT or 2, but he didnt.

I think he was having problems with the weather, just like most of the other QBs you mentioned.

Other than you saying that Cam "was bound to have a bad game", I agree with your post.

His throws in the 1st Quarter were terrible. If they were playing the Packers or Bears, he'd have been picked at some point. Just because it was against a lowly Jaguars team that didn't take advantage of his mistakes, doesn't he didn't make them.

He had a bad game, and one that was unexpected, since he didn't even get to 200 yards passing. He was bound to have a bad game sooner or later, but he was sailing the ball off of his back foot way too much. Win = good, but regression = bad. He regressed mechanically.

    • There are several posters that only post negative at all times.   8 wins is a big jump from 5 and we still have 2 games.  Jaguars have a much more talented roster than us and have underachieved for years.
    • All of this noise is just setting us up to lose Week 18 and proclaim life's not fair. If there's one thing I know in my 30+ years of watching the Hornets and Panthers, is that the bad guy always wins in the end. A team can be falling apart internally but we will still lose to them. A team's fanbase can be extra shitty and cocky and they will just win anyway. It always happens
    • Well even if we took diverging paths getting there...our overall assessment of Shough is the same (bolded) lol so I guess that's what matters.  What you call "playing at a level that looks like a veteran starter" is the same thing I'm referencing when I talk about his poise.  Although I still wonder how truly "bad" of a team the Saints are.  Their defense is middle-of-the-road, and their offense does have some good pieces (Olave, Juwan Johnson) outside of running back which is the position most everyone agrees is relatively plug-and-play.  I'm not going to pretend to know anything about the majority of NFL team's o-lines lol but I'm assuming Saints are not great there, although Shough's pressure % seems to have been quite low (and steadily improving) over the last four weeks (20 -> 16.7 -> 15.0 -> 13.0) so maybe they've been playing better as of late, or perhaps Shough himself deserves credit for that.   Some of the language I'm hearing about Shough, including talking about how he's way above league average in several categories, makes it sound like Shough is having a rookie season on par with like a CJ Stroud who established himself as basically a Top 5-10 QB his rookie season.  Maybe that's on me though, I don't mean to attribute anything to you that I'm sure you don't agree with.
