Let us pretend the NFL was to redo the 2011 NFL Draft....

I wanted Luck, of course, then A.J. Green, but quickly switched to Cam once I actually did some research and watched some clips.

An even better question is: say the NFL were to redo the draft AND Andrew Luck declares this time around. Knowing what you know now, who goes #1 overall?

You'd have to take Newton. The things that Newton is doing.. it just doesn't happen in real life.. and he is doing it. Luck, I am sure will have a very good rookie season.. but Newton is setting NFL records here.

I remember getting blasted for saying that Newton had the more potential of the 2. Newton is just one of those athletes that only comes along once a lifetime and he happens to play QB. I still think Luck will be a good pro (think Matt Ryan type success) but Newton is changing the game.

Guess we'd all have changed our answers after interviewing the kid. Going with tape and what any standard fan knows about Newton, most people would still say dont draft him. He has been an amazing player so far for us, and he wants to win. Huge difference between him and Russell. Good Job scouting department and Front office. What would have been better, is to see who we would have selected if LUCK came out too... interesting.

Considering what Atlanta gave up for Julio Jones at 6, I'd have to think a King's ransom would be in order for Cam if we were looking in hindsight.

Thats nothing remember what the Giants gave up for Manning. And that was for Eli. In hindsight we would have had to have like 3 1st 2 2nds and 2 3rds.

True, and what N.O. gave up for Ricky Williams - I was just using this years draft.

this guy was my 1b choice but once Luck decided to stay at Stanford the choice was clear. this team needed a QB and when you have the #1 pick you take the best QB if you need one. when i used to bring up points from his games in college all the haters would do is respond your just a hugger. like i said go watch the BCS national championship game and you will see him swing a blitzing OLB of his shoulders and step up in the pocket and delivery a nice ball up the sideline for 6.

the haters responded with guys wont be that open in the NFL. lmao

Bottom line...Cam Newton was the best athlete in the draft and he plays the position that gets the ball on every single play. There was no good reason to doubt his work ethic or love of football either, even though many did.

I didn't expect him to be this good this fast, but I never doubted for one second that he would work hard and get better. I never believed that smokescreen crap and did not want to trade the pick.

Although highly unlikely he returns, Luck still has more year of eligibility - he will have his degree of course, but now that rookie wage scales are severely cut back and he isn't hurting for money, who's to say he doesn't return again for a Nat'l title if he doesn't get it this year?

    • Not sure who said it first, but Tepper is the correct answer. Still, I'm gonna go with Kasay keeping it inbounds. If, you subscribe to the butterfly effect version of time travel consequences.... When we win SBXXXVIII everybody's lives change: Moose never breaks his leg, We win it all again in 05. Tommy Jone is unknown and Peppers stays home, Champs once more 2008. No artificial pig heart turning JR into a creepy weirdo, no lockout, no Clausen. Fox and Jake ride off into the sunset on their own terms. No 2-14, no #1 pick. But, no laptop, no Blinn, 3 years behind The Golden Calf of Bristol, we still get Cam. JR let's him grow his locs like he always wanted, Smitty sees Cam in a new light. Dreads swinging, (and Smitty with his 3 Lombardis behind him) Cam is old enough to get those calls. No Manning narrative, Cotchery TD, PI against Talib on Philly Brown, 10,000 RTP calls and Kony Ealy SB50 MVP. No Jeans Fridays, no Tepper. KB doesn't slip on his own meatsweat mid-route in SD, Cam becomes the 1st QB to win 10 straight SBs. Retiring after being elected 47th president of the US of A, Cam ushers in the Permanent Proletarian Revolution across the globe, Xi Jinping bows in awe. "ẄøŘƙƐṛ§ őF ŧĤə ŵØRłð, ŮŊÏŦƐ!!!"
    • Yeah your right the owner was copping hand shandies while all this was going down
    • I mean not surprised the Patriots took him in and aren't trying to push him out. They've been the most morally bankrupt team in the NFL for a long while. Wouldn't be surprised if Vrabel has his own dirt on Kraft/Brady and other assholes from that organization over the last couple decades.
