Smith could break Rice's record at a younger age

I know folks think that Smith is getting up there in age where his productivity could be a issue. Even Rivera said he wished he were 4 years younger. But I found it interesting that Rice actually set his yardage record at the age of 33 which is 1 year older than Smith is right now. With Newton only likely to improve, and if Smitty can keep things up for a few more years, he could put up huge numbers for the next 3 or 4 years barring injury.

Just some food for thought.

How many years do you think Smitty has left??

Smitty could probably play late into his career (like 37-38) or so but will have to be replaced and take on more of a Donald Driver role. Question remains, with our luck at WR, will we find that real #1 WR......

I think with the new offensive scheme/coaching staff that we will. When? That I don't know.

Since Smith and Newton aren't leading the stats in their respective areas, they could surpass the old marks and still not hold the record since Brady and Welker are way ahead. So until they are actually leading their categories, this discussion is actually useless.

In addition Welker is younger than Smith. LOL at the irony

gettis looks to have the best chance of anybody currently on the roster to become a #1 at some point. right now we have gettis & lafell who have shown some ability to be good nfl wr's with pilares & edwards as developmental guys.

Actually I expected you to do that. But you missed the point of the thread. It wasn't about breaking the record which Welker could do as well but it was about how long Smith might play at this level. Since Rice broke it at 33 and Smith is on pace to break it at 32 (even if Welker does it as well) how much longer could he play at this level?? That is the question.

It wasn't about getting the record or if Welker will get it at a younger age.

As usual you fail at posts whether you initiate the thread or just contribute.
