The Reason Drew Brees had so much Success

zone was only option as mentioned by others. Our backfield and pass rush will get better.

Our zone coverage will get better too. Lots of guys in no man's land yesterday looking a bit confused.

his success was because he was not on his back. if he's not on his back he is gonna make a good play. It's not because he is a genius, he just has the reps and the time back there to trust the experience he gained from those reps.

This was a big problem. Too many times Brees had all day to throw. You give him that much time he will pick apart the best secondaries. We have got to get some interior pressure.

I did notice on one play that there was a play-action away from Hardy, and he just stopped at the line and watched. By the time he tried to get pressure, Brees had already completed the pass. That kind of thing can't happen. You're backside...ATTACK! You're basically creating a cut-back lane by standing there. Had he just attacked to begin with, he would have gotten some pressure.

Notice a few times that our DL would get beat by blockers, and they just stopped their feet and started leaning on guys. I know they're young, but you can't win like that. You have to try to rip through guys. Didn't really help that the Saints OL was holding basically every play.

With our defense I'm happy they haven't completely lost us games. We've pretty much had a chance to win every single game this year which is surprising. I really thought that losing our key defensive players would equate to us not having at least a chance to win some games. With the personnel that we've got playing now it really makes you realize how great our defense could be without the key injuries.

    • That makes me wonder, how many starting tackles in the NFL and/or elite tackles have short arms? I feel like there’s probably lots of tackles that end up being drafted in later rounds because they had short arms or didn’t have the physical tools.     also why not draft a tackle in the later rounds that we could move to guard or center if they fail, instead of drafting a center? If we draft a center we know they aren’t going to play tackle but if you draft a tackle they could end up playing any of the 3 positions, look at BC for example. It feels like it’s a better decision to draft a tackle in later rounds than a center.
    • Damn back to 10th. I only caught the last 5 minutes but some of those 3's were horrible lol. In that close of game you can't be launching those many hail mary's when you could be chipping away from the foul line. I guess no one wanted to get in the paint and didn't trust the refs to give them the calls maybe? Gonna watch the highlights to get a better idea of the flow of the game
    • I agree.  The Big 12 is a good conference, and he is the swinging dick in that conference.  If Bill Self retires, that sets Kansas back a bit, and Arizona moves even further ahead as the best team in that conference.  Arizona can crush west coast recruiting with USC / UCLA no longer being relevant for LA kids, and Gonzaga not being able to compete moneywise.   If Lloyd comes here, he will be second fiddle to Duke every single year in NIL and recruits.  Not to mention the entire SEC and Big East for kids who want to stay in those regions to play. This is why I keep saying go get Mark Few.  Has proven he can do more with less from an X / O perspective but can also recruit All American players and compete at a high level. He's a god at Gonzaga, but for $9M he'd make the move as that's 4x what he's making at Gonzaga, and makes him the highest paid coach in the country.
