do you think newton has improved over the course of this season?

He has gotten better each week, and his first half was very impressive. He was put into a tough position in the second half and this team is leaning to much on a rookie, causing him to force some passes down field, trying to make a play, when he had routes underneath that were open.

I'm very happy with his progression and am excited for the future. Our defense, however, has made watching these games very painful at times, because you know how good we could be if they could stop a preschool kickball team from scoring.

Of course Cam is getting better. The problem is that our defense is getting worse.

I don't know how anybody could have watched Cam yesterday and say that he's regressed. INT's happen to every QB, rookie or not, and for a rookie, Cam is doing pretty damned good with his decision making. Penalties and missed blocks are hurting this offense more than anything else.

His mechanics in the pocket are improving and he has reduced his over throws as the season has worn on. I still worry about him moving around so much. He is going to have a career of injuries like Vick and other mobile QB's if he plays like that. I'm not sure if you can turn him into into a sole pocket passer, or if you even want to do that given his natural talents. But I think scrambling should be the very last option for him. Several times I've seen him take off running when he could have made a short dump pass to smith or stewart for the same amount of yards.

Why are you worried about him moving around? Vick is taking more of a beating in the pocket than he ever took when he was playing street ball. Cam also took his hardest hits in the pocket yesterday. I haven't seen him take a hard hit in the open field yet.

The team is so bad it's hard to judge individual players. The other team tends to score nearly every time they get the ball and our defense doesn't create many turnovers.

Under those circumstances, we'd have to be putting up near 4 touchdowns + a game to be competitive and even then we'd still lose most games.

I think he has progressed very well. Opposing defenses have decided to take away the deep pass and are forcing him to make short and intermediate throws which he has been doing pretty well. My concern is that as he realizes our D sucks and that he has to score on every possession to have a shot to win he will start to force things and take unnecessary chances. My suspicion is that Chud is already falling victim to this with some of his playcalling. I think Cam has been very smart running with the ball and has managed to avoid getting hammered by anyone. I feel sorry for the guy that he is being forced to do so much when he is so young. If we had even a mediocre D we would be no worse than .500 right now and we all know how he handles losing.

You guys need to forget about this year instead to focus more how cam can improve even more and how the team can improve overrall...he is still a rookie.

Did you know in peyton manning's rookie season he threw for 26tds and league high 28 ints....also led the colts to a 3-13 record

Troy aikman was 0-11 as a rookie with 9td and 11 ints...we all know what happened after when he had a good running back emmit smith.

Let him go through the struggles of being a rookie in the NFL it will be rewarding later on once he is surrounded by play makers...he cant do it alone.

Good thing about having a bad record this year is that you get to have a high pick in the draft next year ....that was what the cowboys did when they selected emmitt smith with the 17th pick in 1990.

i'm pissed about the loss and about a lot of things on this team that i just don't see improving, including the coaching.

the one thing i feel good about is newton's progress. it's there. he's still learning the offense. what i was wanting to see was him improve and show flashes of brilliance this year. i've seen it. i've seen much more than i expected this early.

if the defense and special teams didn't suck we would have a winning record at this point. he has done enough to get us those wins. it's the other phases that have held him and this team back.
