Winning takes Losing

For sure, but the pain of losing games, especially close and heartbreaking games, is one of the PRIMARY motivators for players because they learn that as high as you may be flying one minute, things can change in one possession in the NFL and that means that you go out there and play hard every single snap to avoid that gutwrenching feeling of losing close ball games.

meh it doesn't have to be about heartbreak. ultimately it is about experiencing more and more situations; some good, some bad. however, i agree w/your overall sentiment

The Colts in 1997. 3-13. After drafting Peyton in 1998. 3-13. In 1999. 13-3. It is possible for that to be us next year if you insist on trying to relate our team to recent history. I personally don't see the point.

Is it possible? Of course man! Anything is possible. This is America. Land of hopes and dreams.

Is it likely? Not really. Newton could still end up like all the other 1st pick drafts who went on to be good, but just good, never winning a Superbowl and never really reaching elite status.

Is Romo a good QB? Yeah. I think so. He does some amazing things for his team...he made a comeback win with punctured lungs and busted ribs just a few weeks ago. Will he ever win a Superbowl? Jury's still out. But he does have better chance than Cam newton, because Romo wasn't picked first.

Nobody's saying Cam Newton's a bust. What I am saying is he's NOT a sure thing either. Far from it.

seriously? do you not see a difference in the way the panthers are playing this year than last year? Should we have kept foxy and jake? F*ing unreal.

Yes I do see the Panthers. I also see how the Panthers are playing in the first 3 quarters and in the 4th quarter in our losses.

Only one Panther goes from a 93.6 QB average rating in the first 3 quarters in his 6 losses to a 60.0 QB average in that 4th quarter when trying to have a winning drive or comeback win.

I also see a big difference in other teams: like the 49'ers and Bengals from last year to this year. Big difference between them last year and this year too. But they also have a difference where it matters: W's and L's.

hahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

romo has a better chance to win a SB because Cam was picked 1st overall

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhahahahahahahaha

Laugh all you want dude, but Superbowl winning QB's as well as elite QB's are total crapshoot. More of them have come out of other rounds or places than 1st pick.

If only that was true. 99.9% of the people around here are still in denial about that fact so it can't be beating a dead horse. The moment that people start to realize that dip in performance, and actually starts being discussed around here, and begin to show a little bit of caution with their parade, will be long past the moment I will move on to something else.

I'm not good at beating dead horses. I'm in that small group of people that are much better at bursting others dreams and in the end don't even get any credit from waking some up from what turns out to be a nightmare.

You all do a much better job at beating dead horses, like Clausen for example because you are so unbelievably blinded by hype that when a guy that simply turns out to be what he was all along, and not what YOUR FALSE IMAGE of him is, you have a tendency to turn against him for breaking your foolish hearts.

It's infatuation, not love. Same will happen with Cam Newton. And just like with Clausen, I'll still be one of the last ones defending him from those that will trash him later.

i see so you want to be that guy that disagrees with everyone just to be THAT guy. Someone needs to disagree!

#1 But I'm pretty sure what pissed you all off the most is that I also said O.J. Simpson, and could go either way, wasn't it? I still fully expect Cam Newton to do great things....good or bad. And he's shown that personality in both his wins and losses, from his extreme giddiness to his serial killer look in losses in his press conferences. It's there baby.

And Cam Newton is doing great things already. But last time I checked this was STILL a team sport.

You ALL eventually come around sooner or later, I just spot things a little bit earlier.

You are the guy that has been plastering this board with some 60 QBR number that you pulled out of your ass, and citing that as why we are losing. Now you are saying it is a team sport. Which is it, bucko?

Oh, and you want us to believe what, that Cam is destined to kill someone like OJ? And you spot this earlier than others using your magic powers? Get help. You have some serious issues.

I am not sure where you learned about things like statistics, cause and effect, and probabilities, but I hope it was public education, because if you paid for it you should ask for a refund.

I'm going to make another prediction because this is so much like De Ja Vu....it's not even funny.

This is around the time of the year where I lose interest because I have pretty good idea of how things will unfold, especially around here and the conversations really start turning to crap.

In the mean time what will happen is a massive, painful, but very, very slow methodical meltdown of this place that will lead up to right about draft time and a bunch of people pissed off at the world for being so foolishly optimistic and buying into their own hype. And just like last year, I'll probably quit posting and just check back to read, probably come back around draft time. At that point the attitude around here is going to be 180 degrees opposite of what it is right now and most of the people are going to be taking some of the things I pointed out and turn it into the next cliche joke.(i.e. search for "Clausen going to the movies"). And people will still continue to hate and me and proceed to tell me how much I suck or talk out of my ass while they continue to shamelessly regurgitate statements, ideas, and facts and other information(that's currently being discarded) because I(and as always along with a few others) attempted to be real about things when the rest were simply: not ready to face them.

    • Either way there's some tough teams on the schedule this year, on paper anyways.
    • Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.
    • Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.
