After continuing to watch our piss poor defense I have come to the conclusion that despite out crappy LB play, much of that will be remedied with the return of Jon Beason. Despite our crappy DT play, I think that will be remedied with the young guys getting another year under their belt and the return of Edwards. I like our options at DE with Johnson, Hardy, and Applewhite.

Our offense is clicking and IDT we can spend yet another 1st round pick on an OT only a few years after picking Otah. If we want to cut bait then thats fine but don't waste a 1st rounder replacing him...just suck it up.

Bottom line is that we are still in a division with Matt Ryan and Drew Brees. We need guys that can cover. So if one of the CBs explodes then that is the pick you go with. Claiborne has great size and someone compared him to Woodson the other day on TV...which I like. If he is gone and we have a chance at Blackmon or Jeffery (whoever looks to be better then gotta consider it...too talented not to). If all 3 of those guys are gone then start thinking about the best LB or possibly moving down to acquire more picks.

I'm in line with your thinkin'

Carolina still in the crop of 2-6 teams and currently sits 7th in the draft, that's subject to change though. There isn't a WR worth the risk of a top 10 pick in this draft imo, there's ton of CB's and ton of OLB's. That said there's only a few players that I'd take in the top 10 for the Panthers that have a realistic chance of being around at 7th or 8th.

Either of the two big time LT's in the draft, Brown (despite what people here think, he's a top 10 player in this draft), Blackmon (It's a reach, but it's worth the risk around 7-8th) and Claiborne or trading back into the draft to pick up an extra 2nd and get a 3rd rounder back.

Kuechly is purely an MLB or ILB in the NFL, doesn't have elite speed that you want in an OLB running a 4-3. I like Luke and think he'll make a nice 4-3 Mike, but I don't think he can play either of the OLB spots in the NFL.

Given that, it kinda gives the edge to Brown because he can probably run both at the Will & MLB

Yea I think so, he's the best LB in the draft. Brown has a ton of talent and fits perfectly at the WLB spot. He has the frame to add 5-10 more pounds, runs a 4.4 - 4.48, plays the pass and run well. He also can play all three LB spots and if he doesn't start would provide some instant help on ST coverage wise with his speed.

There's a reason most draft sites have him as the top rated LB (by a large margin at that too) and one of the ten best draft prospects in this draft. That's elite size and speed.

    • I'm really not stressing about upgrading from Bryce. I'm frustrated with our inability (or refusal) to recognize overall bad QB performance and failure to seriously address the issue. QB is the most impactful position on the field, and we're not only settling for what we've been given to this point, but we've rewarded it with a fully guaranteed 5th year extension for a player that's never played 2 NFL franchise QB quality games back to back in 3 seasons. I can't understand how that's ok from a coach's or GM's viewpoint. Successful franchises don't do things like this. It just doesn't make sense.  We do not have a top half of the league QB right now. Since we don't have that player, we should be looking for him. Pickett isn't it. Grier isn't it. Bryce hasn't proven he is yet. Until you have that sure fire franchise QB, you keep looking. You're not consistently making the playoffs, a deep run, or a SB appearance without one.  What's the worst that could happen? We end up with 2 potential number 1 QBs? How horrible.
    • Easy to understand Pickett, if this is anywhere close to on point. Canales wants to get as close to Bryce as he can- get the pace and timing in the throws as close a he can to Bryce. So the other players don’t have to adjust so much, to a new guy.       If Cam was the 1, he would look for a rocket arm.  But Bryce is the 1. Look for limited in the same way.  Low velocity, plenty of air under it, feels just like home when Picket comes in. And you have the guys on the second team not having such a radical adjustment (if they have to play) like with Dalton to Bryce.    Enter Grier. I guess we will collect those types.
    • Best part is if we draft him, we can also use him as our fourth and one QB sneaker
