The Chud Affect

Every sd beat writer thinks he's hiding a leg injury.

Here's an interesting perspective earlier this season:

http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-triangle/post/_/id/7824/going-all-philip-rivers-about-philip-rivers-not-going-all-philip-rivers-this-season

haha @ this:

"Philip Rivers is an asshole. It's what makes him special. If Peyton Manning plays football like he's overseeing an assembly line and his brother Eli plays like he's being sent to detention, Philip Rivers plays like he's about to start a fight at last call, and there's nowhere else on earth he'd rather be. Remember when he [tried to torment] Jay Cutler?"

The early absence of Antonio Gates has a lot to do with it as well, and he still looks a bit out of shape. Rivers is forcing throws, especially when playing from behind.

The one thing I worry about with Rivera coming from San Diego is that I have always seen Turner's teams as being underachievers. Explosive, but underachieving. Whatever the cause, I hope not too much of that has rubbed off on Ron and Chud.

UPDATE: 06/14/2011: Philip Rivers clearly took procreation lessons from Antonio Cromartie while playing together in San Diego. Sources are indicating that Tiffany is pregnant with the couples 6th child. To quote a tweet from @TheBigLead,...

"Cromartie is impressed he made them all w/ 1 woman."

Well if it comes to losing Chud to a head coach offer, would you rather give up Rivera and keep Chud as head coach?

Depends on what kind of defense Rivera builds. I would rather have a defensive minded coach personally as well as an elite defense over an elite offense. Yea it's an offensive league now days but that to me is all the more reason to have a solid D. I don't see why you can't build a 11 style defense if you can build a 11 offense. Again, that's just my preference and Rivera seems more able to do that. I would give Chud as much money as I could though...

    • It's crazy with how much winning was going on when we had a little cool off period that we're still just a couple games out of 6th. Moussa is getting better every week and Coby is getting comfortable. Would be nice to get to 6 but I think this team is a lot more stacked than the last couple play ins. I can't remember the exact rules but if you're 7th seed and win the first game I think you automatically move on and don't have to play the second game?
    • I think it was a thing for sure. Panthers weren’t too many people’s first choice. Or 5th choice.  2022 and 2023… coaches fired mid season. Consecutive years. You want any of that?  He has definitely overseen a rehab of how the Panthers are perceived. Because we are a place that is seen as up and coming. And just the little thing of he accommodated Theilen so graciously, that gets noticed. It all adds up. Dan is doing a lot of things right, probably most things.  Needs a good draft.
    • K, I think that is dumb, but you do you. I didn't find anything online that made him out to be a dislikable person. I am certain the Panthers would have cared so much if they lost your fandom if they hired Sean Payton. But bet you would have come crawling back if Sean lead us to a Super Bowl victory or Golden leads UNC to a champion ship. It is easy to say you are gonna leave a team if the hire someone you dislike when the chips are down. But people like you tend to come crawling back once the team finds success.
