Carolina quarterback Cam Newton doesn't have many doubters, but the Panthers' lack of wins are starting to (unfairly) take some of the luster off what he's done. That could all change soon. Saints safety Roman Harper told me last week that Carolina is a team that's close to turning the corner and it could be a major thorn for teams that have positioned themselves for the playoffs -- like Tennessee, Sunday's opponent.

The Titans are 1½ games behind Houston and they have to keep pace because for them to get to the playoffs, they'll likely have to win the AFC South since the wild cards look like they'll be coming from the North and East. Many of Tennessee's players have practiced against a tall, athletic quarterback who could run -- former starter Vince Young -- but they didn't work against one who's as much of a complete package as Newton.

With a bye to make a relatively creative offense even harder to predict, Carolina and Newton might cause the Titans some problems.

defense and special teams are what they are...unreliable.

the offense just needs to work with that in mind and just plan to run the score up as high as possible. on 4th and shorts, no more kicking the ball. they can get those extra couple yards easily enough.

no more tapping on the brakes and hoping that the defense can keep the score down.

if they open up the offense and keep the pedal down to the floor the whole game, this team has enough to beat anyone they face on the schedule. let the defense and special teams catch up next year. just don't live under the delusion that they are competent enough to help you win.

      I think you have to factor in that we're still not an attractive proposition for Head Coaches. You're not getting the cream of the crop if you fire Canales a year after winning the NFC South, especially considering the situation he walked into.

      Honestly, I dont  think he should be on the hot seat yet. A bad start to next year, then yes. Despite our mistakes on play calling this past season, we played better than anticipated overall. Bryce showed improvement and maturity (although still not nowhere close to our expectations). Better record and 2-15 to 5-12 to 8-9. Despite what we feel the stats dont lie we are improving by 3 wins a year. Could 11-6 be our expectation. That's a high bar but at the rate we are going, thats what its looking like. We all want to see a 5-12 to a 13-4 record but we are methodically moving up. Success doesnt happen overnight (well in most cases).  IMO we are struggling mostly on the defensive end. LB and edge are our biggest weakness. I see Bryce making improvements (even though I was a Bryce hater) next year. Biggest concern is LT on offense. How to fix this? We need a big name edge or to trade up and get a big name edge or LB and pick up one in FA and draft one. Also if in the 3rd we can pick up a TE. Dont know if Sanders is the answer or Tremble (even though I love Trembles blocking and power after the catch). If these two can get their footwork together they would be great. Maybe all they need is a better TE coach. And if Brooks can stay healthy and be the back we thought he could be, man that would be great
