How about a 320+ DT that runs a 5.04

Sounds like a good late round prospect.

However I do have a question for someone that can answer me this.

If he is that fast could he possibly play Defensive End even though he is 320 lbs, or does this not make sense?

DE in a 3-4..but a DT in a 4-3..at least thats were i think he would be a force at...i hope we at least make a run for him

No he probably would be taken out of the play pretty easily as he would have no ability to rush around the OT.

Noteworthy...

Scouts from roughly 20 NFL teams have already come to see Martin at workouts held in Windsor and London, Ont. His schedule beginning next week includes visits to the Carolina Panthers, San Diego Chargers, and St. Louis Rams, followed-up by trips to see the Miami Dolphins and Cleveland Browns, with many more possible before the NFL draft on April 25-26.

My reservation would be the possibility of him being the next Mike Mamula. I'm always a little suspicious of the "suddenly hot" players. Happily the team puts more stock in on-field performance than workout numbers, so you can bet they'll check him out thoroughly.

Ziggy Hood is my favorite DT of the moment, but this guy is worth a look see as well. It'd be nice to get another Kris Jenkins type.

I think Denver is going to make a play for peppers. they just secured the two first rounders and they need super help on defense. don't be suprised if it happens on or around draft time.

i could see that but i dont think they will give us there 2 first rounders..like people think.

That idea's flashed across more than one mind since yesterday.

as agile as his combine numbers show I think he could play DE in certain situations if we wanted more size and power on the field

It's his technique and personal tendencies that likely will restrict him playing at DE rather than his athleticism. He appears to just like to bulldoze people and over power them.

Having said that, he could be coachable to work into that kind of role. I just find it very unlikely he will be utilised as a DE for a 4-3 team, you just are not playing him to his strengths.

we must have some serious interest..in him becuase i dont think we would pay all this money to get him all this way..he will be here monday for a visit

During the next few weeks, Martin will be flown -- at NFL teams' expense -- to meet the coaching and management staff and be interviewed. Each team has a limited number of players they are allowed to bring in to visit.

Some teams were hoping Martin would fly under the radar. His testing scores, size and the fact it isn't a particularly rich crop of defensive lineman coming out of university this year, made hiding Martin more difficult.

we prob were that team..lol

    • Are you now equating best/worst rush defense with best/worst defense? Those are separate things entirely. For rush defense, depending on how you quantify it, he has been largely in the bottom third of the league his entire career as a defensive coordinator.  As you can see, aside from his one year in Denver, he has never been above 20th in yardage. Now, there is context to consider which is most coordinators choose to run on him(24th-32nd ranked in his three year in Carolina). So, if you just simply look at Y/A, it has been a relatively mixed bag. Twice a top 15 defense but twice a bottom 15 defense.  The thing the should make all this good/bad run defense a lot clearer is the right most columns. Evero's defense has always prioritized pass defense and confusing QB's. That's the core of his defensive philosophy, as has been reported relatively widely. As much as there are ample personnel issues on that side of the ball(many of which he contributes to with his below average talent evaluations) his defenses may never be truly elite in rush and pass defense unless they are stocked with defensive talent. Like....his Denver defense that he inherited was. To that point, if you look at all those rankings from the three years Fangio(of whom Evero is a noted disciple) it shows a progression of getting steadily better into the far more elite defense it is now under Vance Joseph. As far as his HC interest, recall that he was a hot commodity after Denver and that cooled significantly after his first two years here. I suppose if you count getting interviews for HC positions as a benchmark for being a good coach(most would not) then he is middle of the packish.
