The yearly dream thread.

Hurney is still here

Hurney has never gone after top F/ A

He waits and waits and waits

And picks up B or C or D F/A's

So an A F/A is just dreaming

Ken Lucas was considered a top free agent at the time, as was Mike Wahle. Keyshawn Johnson also was big time for the team, even though he was nearing the end of his career.

I can't see us signing any big name offensive FAs. Next year we'll have Smitty (probably in decline, but still dangerous), Gettis, and LaFell, as well as Pilares, Nanee, and Edwards. With that group, I imagine the FO will feel that we're good at WR.

We will likely re-sign Shockey, but even if we don't we have Barnidge.

Does anyone seriously think we would sign a running back? I want what you're having if you do.

It's possible, not likely but possible that we get some depth on the OL, but with Gross, Wharton, Kalil, Schwartz, Ziemba, Bell, Hangman, and Otah I doubt it.

So that leaves defense. We have needs at LB for depth, in the secondary, and at DT.

All the FA DTs out there suck. We will probably sign someone anyway, but it's more likely that we get someone young with potential like Amobi Akoye than any of the top guys.

At LB, a lot depends on what we do with Davis, and who's available in the draft. It wouldn't surprise me if we signed someone, but that would probably be for their skill on special teams and I wouldn't be looking for a starter here.

That leaves the secondary, where we have a couple of solid starters already, but could use some help. I don't know if we look to upgrade Martin, but I would be surprised if we didn't try to move Munnerlyn back to the nickel and get a quality starter at CB. That could come through the draft (Claiborne, Kirkpatrick), but in case it doesn't it makes sense to get a quality free agent here.

So, Brent Grimes, come on down! Weaken your division rival, bolster your secondary, everyone wins! :)

Getting Grimes would be incredible.

From what I recall the falcons arent in the best cap shape either.

Two years in a row we fuged them in FA would be pleasing

if we got grimes and a good solid vet DT in the offseason i would consider the offseason to have been a success. the draft would be just gravy. we still would need WLB and RT addressed, but i think we might be able to do enough from what we find in the draft and in house. it might be scrappy, but it should be somewhat effective, esp. if we consider that next year might just be a phase, not the final phase in building a championship team.

we should find enough in the offseason this coming year to get us into the playoffs next year. the following year we should legitimately be in the discussion for a superbowl run year after year.

What part of "we're building through the draft" did you not understand?

Given the fact we only draft one or two players worth a poo here and there, we still have alot of gaps to fill, the IR bug..........umm if most of the people on here are right and next season is the season then everyone needs to learn to understand "Free agency"! Hell most of the good players we have now will be gone if we leave it up to the draft. I would like to see what Mike Wallace wants, Carlos Rogers who would be awesome if we could get him at the price the Niners did, any kicker that can make it from 30 out, that Garay guy from SD that plays NT is a free agent and might like to join his old coach again. That would leave LB and OL to focus on in the draft! We will need another LB and the free agents don't look that great although there are some decent OL free agents. Kalil is rumored not to enter draft so maybe try to address the defense with the draft and explore free agency to help our OL.

I also think we need to look for safety help! Godfrey and his backups have looked horrible in coverage and tackling this year. I like the hard knocks but watching Godfrey the past couple of weeks turn his head and take his own teammate out is not playing the position right. Guys know of anyone right off hand coming through the draft that would be worth a look?

It would be absolutely insane to replace Charles Godfrey. Charles is widely regarded by his teammates, as well as opponents, to be one of the top ten best Safeties in the league.

i think godfrey and gamble are very good solutions for the next few years. i also really like captain as a nickelback and STer (but NOT #2 which he is now). not a fan of martin or pugh this year. and if hogan turns out to be a 2nd round talent like everyone says he is, then we don't have to worry about mo claiborne or brent grimes (not that we'd get grimes since he's going to be the highest paid CB this offseason).

honestly, this is a huge free agent class and i like it. Braylon Edwards, DeSean Jackson, Robert Meachem and Steve Smith (from the Eagles) are 4 guys i would love, BUT for me, i want Jackson in Washington and the panthers to get either Edwards oor Meachem or Smith, out of those 3, i think it's Meachem. this class though has ALOT of corners and i think we should get both Terrell Thomas (or Aaron Ross, cant see us getting both) and Jarrett Bush. Bush for depth and Thomas (or Ross) to start opposite of Gamble. and they have some DTs too, including Marcus Thomas, Brodrick Bunkley and Aubrayo Franklyn and Shaun Rogers. now for me, i want Carolina to get Bunkley, Rogers, Meachem, Bush and Ross (who i think the Giants would rather lose) and then i want another team i like (Washington) to get DeSean Jackson (they need a WR), Levi Brown (depth), Deuce Lutui, Eric Wright and i want to re-sign Griffin.

I wouldnt be surprised if we went after Grimes pretty hard TBH. It would hurt a divisional team and help us.

Also keep an eye on Antonio Garay. He is the NT for the Chargers (yet I know whats a 3-4 STFU for a second). He played for Rivera in San Diego. His ability to help us mix up fronts and be a run stopper for a 4-3 would be exceptional. He might be pricey tho.

Hell both of the two I mentioned would be pricey.

I would love to see us get Desean Jackson. He would give us two dangerous deep threats and would be perfect for Smittys succesor once he leaves. Can you imagine how good our offense will be with the two? It would mean Smitty and jackson could't be double teamed meaning BIG plays.

I know we must get a DT because there doesn't seem to be any ones worth getting in the draft, maybe worthy from Michigan st. I would prefer experienced DT over another rookie right now. I don't know the list but we need to get a above average DT maybe two.

I am a huge Thomas Davis fan but even if he is back next year we need to have his replacement because of his injury history, not to mention our defense and special teams has had bad play from the LB.

I also believe that we need to get another CB and Safety, I do think that this problem can be fixed in the draft and it seems that this years draft is loaded with great players in the secondary. I like Martin but I have heard that he isn't doing that well and I know that Munnerlyn has been awful this year. I do want to see what Hogan can do because he might be able to be a good corner but I think he might be a few years away from being a starter. I think Barnidge will be a great special teams player and has recieving ability to possibly be our #2 if Shockey leaves. We already know that barnidge can make big plays and has great speed for a TE, we also know how he can make big plays on special teams with that speed.

i can't believe that anyone could see what desean jackson is doing this year and think that he could be good for this or any team.

the dude is talented for sure, but that talent is apparently wasted on a selfish prick of epic proportions. he doesn't care about the team. he doesn't care about the game. he doesn't care about being a professional. all he cares about is getting his way.

i don't want this team and this coaching staff to have to deal with that. i'd be surprised if they do. you don't want that kind of personality around a team you are trying to build. you can't trust it. you can't rely on it. you don't need it.
