I love Smith today but these are not the kind of comments I usually hear coming out of Smith's mouth. While I can understand Smith taking up for our QB, The Golden Calf of Bristol didn't say anything about Cam or Carolina Panthers, at least not that I know of, so I find it kind of odd that Smith would go out of his way to make such distasteful comments. Not only is he dead wrong about The Golden Calf of Bristol's playing ability, but I don't see the need for this.

More likely some media guy asked him about The Golden Calf of Bristol vs. Newton and he just answered like he did.

I am so fuggin sick of hearing about The Golden Calf of Bristol.

I really do not get the national buzz. He was a good player in college, right? It's not like he sucked ass in college and came from NSW Missouri State. Screw the national media for cramming this stuff up our asses every 30 seconds.

I realize that. I would have either changed the subject or just praised my quarterback. I wouldn't add in the rest.

It was a stupid question by the reporter to ask Smith, since the Panthers have nothing to do with The Golden Calf of Bristol(Fox would have been a more interesting topic) but the problem was the stupid reporter, not The Golden Calf of Bristol. That part showed Smith has a problem with The Golden Calf of Bristol getting attention with the way he came across.

Asking for drama or looking to make the news. That's all. My issue is I don't like the image our leaders are starting to present. It's pooty. Real pooty. It only works when you can back it up and Smith's always been the type of dude to talk poo, but it usually followed meaningful accomplishments. It's uncharacteristic of him. He's had it right his whole career. He's never picked a fight. He's usually just made those that do pay for it. It's what I always loved about him.

It's no shock to me that Denver's defense is doing very well under Fox, and The Golden Calf of Bristol is taking advantage of that. I wish we had kept Meeks as our DC, or at let's kept the Tampa-2, or Cover-2 we had under Fox. I said as much early in the season when Dever was having trouble, and I got a lot of "still want his defense?" and "the future of the NFL is headed to a more dynamic blah blah bs bs". Well they were wrong, but what's new.

I do agree with you about not being surprised by Denver's defense doing well under Fox. Fox was and is one of the best defensive coaches in the league.

However, Denver has more talent on defense than the Panthers by far right now considering injuries. Denver had a lot of injuries on defense last year, but remember they started 2009 6-0 behind a great defense with Kyle Orton (part of the reason they were picking lower in the 1st round, the pick being used to get The Golden Calf of Bristol).

Even at the start of this year, Dumervil and Bailey were banged up and they were learning a new defense. So, when you consider all factors, no I am not surprised.

But, back to the Panthers, I for one think the Richardson made a great hire with Rivera. Bringing Chud on was a fantastic move- I just hope he sticks around for a while.

Rivera has made some rookie mistakes as a HC in my opinion in terms of clock-management, but he is and has proven himself to be a great defensive coach over several teams, several schemes, and many years.

Him and McDermitt and trying their best to make chicken soup out of this mess of a defense right now. I am not 100% sold on McDermitt, but Rivera knows defense and he will either make it work with McDermitt or find the right guy going forward.

I am reserving judgement until with have a healthly defense. Personnel issues are a much bigger issue than coaching. Missed draft picks (Everrette Brown), letting Peppers go for nothing, ignoring DT and CB have hurt the Panthers quite a bit.

Look at the Cowboys- Rob Ryan can't get anything out of that group either. People thought Wade Phillips was the problem, and he has turned Houston around while the Cowboys D still stinks.

Fox was a great hire in 2002 and he had a good run here. It was past time to move on for both parties though.

Rivera has the fire and knowledge to be a great coach I think- time will tell. I am excited about the future of this team.

I gotta hand it to Foxy, not that I can say im suprised but he has gotten the most of his players in Denver. Everyone knows that he is well known for bringing the best out of a player so none of you shouldn't be suprised. Now moving onto the Newton vs The Golden Calf of Bristol discussion. I think both players fit into what both of their respected teams would like to do. Lets not question if we have the better player. Just wait to see how Cam's talent increases next year.

well you have to realize that i bet he's asked that alot by reporters and fans and he likely just go sick of it and just said what he said, i do agree that it's a stupid question to ask. i know The Golden Calf of Bristol is the hot story, but i still think Newton is a better passing QB. they both have work to do, but Newton's is more with decision making which is a fixable thing. The Golden Calf of Bristol's is more with his mechanics.

No way to know who has the better player at the moment.

What I do know is The Golden Calf of Bristol's executing better.

The only way to really compare them, is if Cam also starts executing better and The Golden Calf of Bristol also gets the kind of help Cam gets. Then you can. Right now what it shows is even with an anemic team, executing and being efficient > raw unrefined talent.

Our only hope is Cam has what it takes to become refined and we also picked the right people for the job. So far this year, I couldn't freaking answer you either question.

It's either Cam or the coaching staff. Can't tell which one's which and the only way we'll find out is if we either start winning, or one of them goes. If Cam goes and someone takes over and we start winning, it was Cam or Cam didn't fit in here. If we change the coach and we start winning we picked the wrong coach to train this rook. And I hope we don't fug up yet another rookie because of poor management and coaching politics.

i am just basing this on what i see from them. i am not saying that The Golden Calf of Bristol's playing bad, i just think that he's been a bit more inaccurate and has missed some simple throws at times. i think that The Golden Calf of Bristol will improve though and hopefully gets better weapons than what he has.

    • Brother re-check that guarantee...my page shows 30mill.....thats means he's staying in my book for at least til the end of 2026.  Im going to be my normal honest self, besides watching like half of the SB, I didn't know the guy. My guess is Panthers have a "planned model of paying players" and they almost had to spend a chunk of space on a DLman after Dbrown injury season gave them a nightmare out-come of worst D in NFL scoring. Once Milton got above Dbrown payments, they went with the plan B. A player whom the "co-GM" put his name with. Brad said turk would not be a problem off-field and leader, which the Panthers need badly. I dug in with the google-fu, I found out  I also found him playing lots of NT, which was shocking given the small frame. He seems ready for a bigger role and had a great SB too. IDK, I feel Dan Morgan was dead set on not going into this season without more DL depth and its there. The real deal is this, nearly all FA take one year to "adjust". I think turk is trying too hard and causing injuries as a result for his contract. Dbrown called turk "strong as hell" and I know for a fact Dbrowns has insane core and strength numbers. They lift together with the 50 LB difference...... you always lift with a guy who's similar in strength cause you can leave on the 8 wheels, let the other guy lift while you rest and go after him.  I do wish he had a better beginning to his panther career, 3 games for him to do so and it would cover up the low points if he made a few plays.... Again it felt like they almost had to make move/spend $$$ and Morgan was going to have DL depth this season no matter what...My best guess.
    • There's a reason DC wasn't getting calls to be a HC. He wasn't ready. His indecisiveness is infuriating. His lack of awareness is mystifying. He jumped at the chance to grab the David Tepper retirement plan and who can really blame him. Maybe with time he can grow into the job. But we're on year 8 of our 7 year rebuild. I think I'm gonna need a hip replacement before we get a decent HC.
