Shades of the Steelers of old...kinda. Hear me out

In case y'all forgot, I am also a Steelers fan (except when they play the Panthers). When I look at the Panthers I can't help but see some similarities between this team and the Steelers team that dominated the 70s, when I was coming up. Now, before some of you go postal on me, I know that those Steelers teams have four rings. This is just me having dreams of Super Bowl rings in Charlotte. I can only hope that the Panthers will strive to play up to the level of probably the best team there ever was in NFL history. We do have the talent to take it all. Now it's just about motivation, desire, and consistency, consistency, consistency...and hope that John Fox = Chuck Noll.

Jake Delhomme = Terry Bradshaw

Thomas Davis/Jon Beason = Jack Ham/Jack Lambert

Julius Peppers = L. C. Greenwood

Steve Smith and Muhsin Muhammad = Lynn Swann/John Stallworth

Deangelo Williams/Jonathan Stewart = Franco Harris/Rocky Bleier

Chris Gamble = Mel Blount

Maake Kemoeatu = Ernie Holmes

Damione Lewis = Joe Greene

Johnson = Dwight White

Some of the comparisons I can see but not so much on others. Damione Lewis = Joe Greene? Not in a million years.

Yeah, I admit that is probably the biggest stretch (as well as Kemoe and Charles Johnson), but some are still young or relatively young and will strive for those heights. I couldn't help to think about Jenks when thinking of Joe Greene though.

Actually I think it's a stretch comparing Swann to Smith.

I'm not kidding.

Swann was good but no where near Smith. After hearing Young, who played with Jerry Rice, talk about Smith on MNF I'm convienced that Smith is going to be known as one of the top 5 WR ever. His numbers don't and won't match that of Rice but Smith's talent is at least on par with that of Rice.

Swann and Smitty were both very similar. Smaller WR's with huge verticals and the ability to ****** just about any ball out of the air. Not to mention big plays after the catch.

The Jake/Terry comparison doesn't pan out, because TB was a very mobile QB and Jake.... well let's just leave it as saying he's not.

yes - I do. If I ever see a car with any type of steelers bumper sticker or plate or emblem, I swear to God I really do this - I tell my husband to hit the car. My kids laugh at me because every time I see them make any dumb move, I'll say it's because they are a steelers fan. My husband ticks me off because he never does...and we're always in my car. I'd gladly sacrifice it to hit a steelers fan.

(oh, and I don''t mind the team nearly as much as I dislike the fans)

I'll be sure to keep a distance from you on the road then.

    • I think in all honestly, the final 2 games are carrying most of the weight in a lot of Bryce talk IMO.    During the window where he "blew it out of the water" window......were a lot of games where he was not above average.  AZ is largely one of those stat sheet games.   Where the stat sheet reflects QB play that didn't exist in the game.  That game was all Chuba.  Meh vs Dallas.  Meh vs Philly.  Meh vs Giants.  Probably average vs Tampa, Den, Saints.  Bryce made HUGE strides vs what he was.  We should be happy.   But when you start comparing him to the rest of the league.....people I think are going too far.  His best aspect in reality.....is his scrambling.  And that's probably not a great thing give his size.
    • Mays and Zavala looked lost in the Reich offense.  Granted Zalava was probably playing too soon due to injuries but he looked terrible.  This new staff seems to be doing well with our OL.  I also wonder if having two vets in Hunt and Lewis just made life that much easier on whoever was/is playing center.
    • What the Panthers should target in order (via free agency or via trade): 1. Julian Blackmon  2. Mike Hilton 3. Jaire Alexander 4. Jalen Ramsey
