Looking a new&affordable Gaming PC

just the PC budget allowing around 800 max

I've been out of pc gaming for while so I'm not really up to par on the fastest cards/ processors and all that.

I also want a good waranty and no cyberpower BS shipping to Cali after it breaks down 2 weeks out of the box ( a friend)

I'm thinking Gateway FX series but I'm open to suggestions

the graphics card will not do much at a high resolution and the PSU will probably not support a very high end graphics card.

If it's affordable you're after then just build one yourself. It's not very difficult.

You could build a better comp for 700 even including the price for a full version of windows 7

but if you don't want to build one yourself then I guess that's an ok deal, it depends on what games you want to play

I have a FX4710 @work (alot of graphics in my job auto-cad and the like)

it has a 9800GT how do these cards compare? I've ran games like CS:Source on it and its pretty good. The last PC I bought was in 2000 so I'm pretty outdated on the ind. standards.

Everyone says its easy to build it yourself, but I'm not ready to try without someone close by who knows exactly whats going on.

I'm not a hardcore gamer anymore. If I played like I did 10years ago then I would build my own but this will double as a family PC so it will take some abuse from the Wife and Kids.

That one sounds OK but as said the graphics card won't do squat. The main problem I found value and expense wise was the graphic cards and these are the most important thing when you are looking to play games. A pooty graphics card will fug you to hell. i7 is more than a fast enough processor and if you have the option to go down to the fastest i5 chip and get a better (usually 150-200$) graphics card would be much better suited for a real gaming computer.

Get the fastest i5 chip and after that splurge on the graphics card. RAM is kind of important too but 4gb+ should be fine. A duel video card chip is the ultimate but is very expensive.

I can't recommend the cheapest route because I'd rather buy it and have safe of mind. If you shop the right deals, it shouldn't be too far off in price. You can build a computer at hp or dell or buy an alien ware for around 1000. I recommend just building it peice by peice through dell.com. Use promo codes and buy gift cards on ebay, you can save hundreds.

I ended up getting an i7 with a 200$ dual graphics card and 8gm ram it's awesome and cuts through high specs games like butter. I paid 1100 and it totaled at almost 1600. Building the exact same thing myself would have costed about 900 + a month or so of study and another month of trials. This also assumes I bought all the right pieces and everything works great together.

o i can't speak for the cyberpowerpc but if you go with ibuypower you'll probably want to replace the power supply with something quality like corsair

oh and i got a gt 240 in my dual core that doesn't come close to those specs. it runs everything, but its getting long in the tooth now.

i installed one of these in a friend's dual core intel (better than mine by far) with a 300w psu and it went from being unable to play anything pretty much to running everything on high end settings

his was a slimline hp too, so he was very limited in his choice of video cards

supposedly that's one of the best cards on the market you can get for a slimline or without upgrading your power supply

A mobo/CPu/ram combo will be reasonable if you build your own. Ram is uber cheap right now. The video card is where the bucks need to be spent. I'm running a GTX470 and BF3 on Max 1920/1080 can be brought to its knees. A good power supply is also a must.

As mentioned the video card and the PS in the Gateway is suspect. Worse it could be proprietary on the PS and not upgradable.

Honestly, the days of building your own for cheaper arent really true anymore. Unless you want the most amazing thing and the highest specs around, you can buy a pretty stock one in a store and upgrade the power supply and graphics cards and be able to play most games out now.

Hell best buy has towers around the 300-500 range with i5 processors and you just upgrade the power supply for 50-80 bucks and the graphics card for 60-150 bucks you got a decent rig
