Well lets see here...the Hornets were lucky and that lucks name was Bob Bass.

1991 LJ #1 pick started off great then damn back injury

1992 Alonzo #2 pick, almost had Shaq but lucky to get #2

1996 Kobe Bryant #13 pick. oh what could have been, he bluffed and was traded to LA for Vlade Divac

1999 Baron Davis #3 pick lucked out on lottery again.

Bass was in San Antonio for those first two.

True, but I meant that Bass was able to keep the Hornets talent given a forced hand in having to trade away star players. Doesnt work that way in the NBA anymore though. When a star wants out today he says where he goes and the team is forced to get nothing or some cracker jacks and expired coupons. LJ and Zo were the no brainer picks those 2 drafts.

and call me crazy but i dont think we are that far off. Kemba and bismack were good draft picks. I dont know why some people believe that if you pick in the top 10 you get an allstar. hopefully we get a anthony davis/barnes/gilchrist type player, have another bad year and get a high draft pick.

also in anykind of business you do certain things to generate excitement about your product.

I didn't .....and still don't....like the Kemba and Bismack picks.

Kemba is an undersized guard who is not a great shooter. I think he is going to struggle to get his points.

Bismack has so little offensive ability right now. He is a major project.

I still look back at the Augustine pick as the defining moment of this franchise....the reason they are still struggling.

He is a solid guard, but we desparately needed a big man....and Lopes was sitting there. Now he is a 20+ point and 12+ rebound guy. And, we still have no inside game.

We have drafted the same player three times. Felton....Augustine...Walker. We are the Detroit Lions (when they sucked) of the NBA.

And it has been reported that Augustin was a Larry Brown pick and Jordan wanted Lopez.

I think Biz has shown marked improvement since being inserted into the starting lineup. The Raptors game and @ Orlando are the most notable games for Biz.

8 pts, 13 reb, 7 blocks..not much more you could ask from a 19 year old.

He definitely is.

However, his brother Larry was a really nice guy. I played pick-up ball with him for years at UNCC and did not even know he was MJ's brother.

His other brother James was a world class a-hole, too. But he retired from the Army as a Command Sergeant Major, so I guess it came with the job.

    • This 1000%.  Hey who wants to sign with the guy that couldn't even get his client the guaranteed contract of a 3rd round pick?  Lmao
    • I don't think it's any weird or unique clause, it's the offset language, same thing so many contract disputes are over. It just means that including it, if a player is cut and then signed by another team, the original team would be able to subtract how much they're getting paid by the new team from what they still owe him on their guaranteed money. For example, it's why Russell Wilson signed for the minimum last year with the Steelers as that was included in his Denver contract.  So if he signed with the Steelers for $1 million, he'd get $1 million less from the Broncos, if it was $2 million, he'd get $2 million less, basically he couldn't make any more money than he was already going to make, so you sign for the minimum to not take unnecessary cap room from your new team while giving extra cap room to your old one. The problem with trying to include it in rookie deals is that a team trying to include it, it says they think they don't really believe the player will make it 4 years with the team before they cut them.  And this usually comes up with one or two rookies in most seasons, the difference is it's usually handled much more quietly and not as public and ugly as this one. The other difference is that it's happening with the Bengals, which I believe I saw are one of the few (or only?) team that doesn't have protections for rookies in rookie and mini camps to be able to participate even if they haven't signed their contract yet.  The other teams have injury protections that allow them to still play, but the Bengals do not, which is also why this one is so public and ugly, as most the time this happens, the rookie is still participating in the rookie and subsequent mini camps, giving them more time to get the contract done before training camp when they'd then hold out.
