I don't know much about him, but from his build, measurements, and combine numbers, he seems eerily similar to Smitty.

His college numbers seem pretty average, but obviously no one was overly impressed with Smitty prior to us taking him.

The idea of drafting a WR early has been kicked around in the forum several times, but honestly, it's fairly illogical. Our top needs IMO, are all defense. DL, LB, CB, and maybe even S (Competition for Martin).

This guy measures out almost number for number exactly like Smitty, has a 43.5 inch vertical and had the best 20-yard shuttle of all wideouts. His scouting profile says his quickness is ridiculous and despite his great speed, he rarely used it to stretch the field, instead, he used his quickness and precise route running to catch in intermediate and short routes.

Smitty is getting up there, and this guy seems to have all the tools to grow into that role (a small, fast, and quick guy that goes up and gets it). Now, I don't know about his strength, but taking all of this into consideration, I think this would be a logical choice in the mid-late rounds.

Anyone else know more about him? Watch him much?

Don't know much about him but from looking at Combine he is very fast and very strong for a receiver. Could have big impact on special teams and may even be a surprise and crack the lineup as a receiver

Is there a particular reason we have to go get a Smitty clone and hope he succeeds? Smitty and Welker are anomolies at the WR position in terms of their consistent production vs size. I think if the Panthers are targeting someone to groom as a #1 they would probably look at the prototypical receiver and go from there. Not saying this guy will not be good or great, I just would not jump at trying to create Smitty 2.0.

No doubt.

I just thought the height/weight and athleticism combo was intriguing. The 43" vert really stood out to me and his build is almost identical to Smitty's coming out. So, naturally, I thought of a small guy going up after the ball...

What I wanted to put in the OP but didn't is, while this is a cool comparison to make and think about, chances of finding another Smitty are pretty slim. Why? Because what really made Smitty so great is his passion and drive for the game. There are plenty of 5'10", 175 guys in America that can put up similar numbers in a combine, but very few are making a living in the NFL, let alone dominating it.

You can't measure heart, and Smitty has ton of it... But, being a guy of similar build, I always pull for these type guys.

That being said, I wouldn't mind Stephen Hill whatsoever if he's there after the 2nd lol.

We should look at Devon Wylie. Instead of Smitty 2.0, we would have White Smitty. Seriously, his numbers in college at Fresno are very similar to Smitty. His 40 time, his size, etc. Since he is white, has drawn comparisions to Wes Welker, but on paper, he is Smitheau Blonde.

Ah. I see. Its the "Draft the Fastest White Guy Strategy"

Cant see any reason why this wouldn't work...

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
