The Long Shadow of Chernobyl

Yeah, that's a sad situation over there... for 5 of the last 6 years we've had a Belarussian girl (she's 14 now) come and stay with us for 6 weeks in the summer... she gets away from the area, gets better food, medical and dental care here, it's pretty cool. They are great people. They've told us that the children that are able to get out of country for just those 6 weeks a year add years to their lives.

Uh, aren't you Ukranian, ARSEN?

Yes, Yes I am and I'm proud of it. :D

My mom tells me about Chernobyl all the time. I don't remember because I was 1 month old. But she said she grabbed me and left for another country away from radiation cloud. I was like 500-700 miles away from Chernobyl and I got super lucky the wind blew away from where I were. More than 100,000 people died directly and its expected close to 100,000 more to die indirectly because of this accident. My grandpa died of leukemia. Doctors said that he was exposed to too much radiation not sure if Chernobyl related.

    • The panthers are such a trash organization at this point that all the huddle can do is argue about which panthers team is historically the worst…good times.
    • Well, hope they're not worried about a torn Labrum or Rotator Cuff, as someone who went through that myself, I know those don't have anything show up on X-Rays but from the MRI, so this is kinda a nothing update, hope it's not a tear or his season is already over if they decide to do surgery now. Which is basically what would be needed to get him to 100% for the start of next season's training camp if it's a labrum.  If he plays the season with it and then does surgery, he's not going to be ready for camp and probably not the start of the season either.
    • I always try to not pay much attention to a team’s preseason win/loss record. The 1982 Washington and 2021 LA Rams both lost every game in the preseason and went on to win the Super Bowl, whereas the 2008 Detroit Lions and 2017 Cleveland Browns both won every game in reason and went on to lose every regular season game. There’s many examples of teams that lose in preseason that go on to have good seasons, but equally there are teams that lose in preseason and that continues in the regular season. Which will we be?  I think our floor is a handful of wins, while our ceiling will probably be around the 9-10 win mark. The latter will require significant improvement from the whole team and coaching staff, and will also need Bryce to play like the QB we drafted him to be. I want to be optimistic and predict a winning season, but it’s really difficult as a Panthers fan!
