MMH - Well better your trying to clearly state your point of view and not ramble on like ole Stevey boy there... Gonzo seemed like he was Manning's goto target in the pro bowl. Ward was just constantly gone down the field versus the Panthers, seemed like they didn't put a hand on him until he already had 15 yards each touch.

Gonzo was his target, but I don't think Beason started playing OLB until the second half. They had him and Willis in there at the same time (because thats a kick ass combination), and Beason was covering Gonzo for most of the rest of the time he was in there, and he kept him from catching anything IIRC.

We were 12-4 last year. How does that NOT make Jake a top 10 OB at this time? Please don't tell me QB ratings, that is a flawed, stupid assessment for a QB. As of the start of the 2008 season, Jake was the 17th GREATEST QB EVER per the QB rating system. I DO NOT agree with THAT assessment, but my point is how flawed the overall rating system is! The Pro Football Hall of Fame site below spells that out...

Anyone who goes to that site will notice, if they're observant enough, the absence of QBs who actually WON world championships like Otto Graham, Bart Starr, Terry Bradshaw, Roger Staubach, John Elway, Bob Griese, and the most egregious omission of all, Johnny U! Not to mention Sid Luckman, Norm Van Brocklin, and Sammy Baugh (yes, some of them performed BEFORE there was a Super Bowl, but it was THE world championshp none the less!). You don't go 12-4 without having a decent QB! He might not be THE best, but he's a good fit here. My knock continues to be his lack of improvement as far as his mechanics go, as successful as his overall starting record is, I believe it would be MUCH better if he executed play fakes and pump fakes more effectively, not to mention if the team introduced an element of 'razzle dazzle' and surprise to the offense. As predictable as we were last year, we went 12-4. I'm not Jake's biggest fan, but I will not denigrate him either. I certainly believe he is among the top 10 QBs in the league at this time..

My list starts at:

Manning

Brady

Roethlisberger

E. Manning

Brees

Jake

Warner

Rivers

Hassleback

McNabb

In that order...

Jake ahead of Warner, Rivers, and McNabb. Haha. You could MAYBE make an argument around Hass, but he's better too. Eli Manning isn't all that either. Palmer should be in there.

Jake's not top 10.

How bout finishing the year with more INTs than TDs and having the 2 worst games of your career in the same season with one of those teams the second to worst team in the league and the other during the worst possible time you can choose to have the worst game of your career!

Big Ben

McNabb

Warner

Cutler

Rodgers

^ Thats from a talent perspective.

Brees better than Brady? How did you manage to find time from your busy posting schedule to evaluate Tom Brady's knee injury and how it's going to effect him this season??

    • ^I want that, but Rodriguez over KC. Don't hate KC as much at that spot, but rather take a WR with the pick we gain in that trade than in the 1st.
    • I think there is good points in this thread to what the team needs to do. 1) Ball isn't really the issue but, he needs reigned in.  Coach and he need to realize when things aren't falling from the three and learn to play other facets of the game.  He's an amazing talent and when he's on, he's on.  But he can also shoot you out of a game.  We're lucky Miami went that way but that is too many missed threes.  He still needs to bulk up if he can, but he needs to drive more.  He's pretty good at finishing usually and hopefully the fouls come (probably not though).   2) The whole team needs to be more physical.  As others have stated, we need more bulk in our bigs.  Diabate is a hurricane of energy but cannot go against the larger centers.  I love him on the team but he should be more of a match up type guy or energy off the bench.  I think he'd be insane off the bench.  However I think the biggest issue with Diabate and Kaulk is the lack of offensive game.  The lack of a jump shot or anything.  Teams figured out to just leave them on the screen and crash lanes.  There has to be some sort of threat.  We need a 4 and a 5 that can do those things and stretch out the court. 3) Bridges.  He's just undersized.  However, I feel he really threw his all into it the last few weeks when others were gassed.  He was ok not being a focal point.  I'd like to have him off the bench as well but I assume he'd be traded to make things work.  4) Miller.  Dude can light it up when on, but disappears for quarters at a time.  Also he needs to work on ball handling and passing.  He's a turnover machine at bad times.  Also hopefully over the injury so he can bulk up too.   5) Kon. Just a rookie.  Long season and back injury.  I have no doubt he'll be back stronger and focused.  Needs to work on defense and physicality like the whole team but yes, a rookie he'll get there. 6) Coby.  Has to be resigned, no question.  The bench lineup is rough without him running the point.  Team has big potential and the front office seems sharp.  They seen the hive and how crazy it got and how much the city wants this.
