Nfc South Draft Needs Per Chad Reuter (Nfl.com)

With the WR being a need. They aren't just looking at Gettis and LaFell and thinking "Carolina needs a #2 WR". They are thinking Steve Smith is getting old and the Panther need to draft someone now to develop into the #1. LaFell and Gettis will never be #1s. They always talk about the three year learning curve with WRs so it's logical to get someone now.

Based on?

Hogan also had a knee injury that some people felt never healed properly because of the lockout (having the work done by a normal surgeon instead of a team doctor). I hope he works out but best case imo is he comes in for nickel and dime and we get Captain off the team.

Got a link? Just one?

This is .the first I've heard of it not healing well, especially for the reasons you speak of.

By the way, the lockout never prevented players from seeing certain doctors. nice reach.

Perhaps that return to the field would have been a little quicker had the NFL lockout not taken place. The lockout prevented Hogan from visiting the Panthers training facility and as a result, prevented the Panthers staff from aiding him in his recovery.

You guys went straight to the draft part and skipped the talent. I could name off undrafted quarterbacks that have played in super bowls but the law of averages show guys like Peyton, Eli, Simms, Elway, Marino, and Terry Bradshaw go more often.

Just watch Lafell play. He's not elite at anything. Gettis had a nice rookie season but so did Keary Colbert. Compare Colstons first two seasons to Lafell, not close. There is no reason to think either of them will be the sort of dominant go to receiver you see on Super Bowl Champions.

Talent is such a blanket statment made by you because you really don't have a reason why he couldn't be.

Compare Lafell 1st 2 season to Roddy White, Reggie Wayne, and Steve Smith. Then make even more blanket excuse against Lafell.

By the way I have watched and Brandon catches everything thrown to him when being targeted.

Roddy White, Reggie Wayne, and Steve Smith have more talent than Brandon Lafell you have to be kidding. I don't know about Reggie or Roddy but I know Steve was a special teams guy his rookie season and had a very nice second season. You can find Steve quotes were he says he didn't even get reps, he was in special team meetings.

The knock on LaFell is he can't separate and at 6'2" he's not a monster either. He ran a 4.58. All the guys you named are sub 4.5. Steve was sub 4.4.

    • The panthers offense right now is spiritually the same as the 2010s Seahawks. They want to keep it close until the fourth quarter and then try to pull a rabbit out of their hat. instead of running marshawn into the line 30 times a game, we’re throwing 20 passes behind the line of scrimmage. And instead of Russell Wilson bullshit, we’re getting 20 yard drives to set up a 55 yard field goal. Also that team had multiple hall of famers and we’ve got the worst qb in the league by whatever collections of metrics you want to use
    • So if Bryce could have come to Carolina with the same advantages he had every year at Alabama he would have been successful. Good coaches. Top recruiting classes far better than the opposition. Defense able to bail him out if he has a bad game.  Still doesnt change anything regarding footwork, mechanics, drop backs, reading the field, poor placement or any of the other myriad of issues that are still present in year 3.  Bryce wasn't ready to be the day 1 starter. There's nothing wrong with that. Dalton was clearly the more capable QB, as evidenced by what happened in Seattle in the rain, under extreme pressure. Same players, same coach, same terrible offensive line. Two different offenses.  When you look at Bryce and what he's done in game over the course of 3 years it's not pretty. He has moments of good, but there's been a lot more WTF. But saying Bryce would have been able to lead a team to the playoffs? Based on what we saw from him, he probably would have spent a good bit of year one on the bench holding a clipboard.
    • Feels on brand for Mike Brown.  He's very anti trade.
