Nfc South Draft Needs Per Chad Reuter (Nfl.com)

Roddy White, Reggie Wayne, and Steve Smith have more talent than Brandon Lafell you have to be kidding. I don't know about Reggie or Roddy but I know Steve was a special teams guy his rookie season and had a very nice second season. You can find Steve quotes were he says he didn't even get reps, he was in special team meetings.

The knock on LaFell is he can't separate and at 6'2" he's not a monster either. He ran a 4.58. All the guys you named are sub 4.5. Steve was sub 4.4.

And Jerry rice was a 4.6. and that Seperation thing has already been disproven.

Just because your MB scout mind has already determine he's not a #1. Doesn't change the fact he has better # his 1st 2 years then Roddy, Smith and Wayne. Not to mention he did this while

1. Playing with 3 Qb's, Jeff Davidson and a lame duck coaching staff.

2. A rookie, no Offseason, learing a new offense, being the 4th or 5th target most of the time, and not starting until the last 5-6 games of the season.

I'm still wating on something other then your opinion that makes him not able to develop into a #1 wr.

Lefell seems like a compliment receiver.

That isn't a insult. Moose was a better compliment receiver.

Gettis is good combination of size, speed, hands.

Was really looking forward to his second year, wanting to see him continue to develop. He still can. Then there is the question whether he lost any of his speed. We'll see.

Even Moose was consider #1 at times in his career.

comparing anybody's rookie season to steve smith's is laughable, because steve smith spent the majority of his time field punts and kicks. no case to be made there.

jury's out on lafell, to be honest. can't tell anything by his rookie year because of the circus at quarterback. he really came on strong during the latter half of the season with cam though, and was an integral part of countless clutch drives and third-down conversions.

i don't expect lafell to develop into a number one wide receiver, but there's no reason to expect he couldn't play the role of sticky-fingered possession receiver in the mold of muhsin muhammed a few years back. pair him up with someone speedy on the outside that can stretch the field and i think you've got a pretty good weapon.

also reuters is an idiot and clearly bases his "needs" on what free agent he saw leave the panthers.

that highlight vid is awesome. lafell seems to have a knack for being able to find holes in the defensive schemes. he is often behind the coverage, or placed perfectly in front of it. it'd be interesting to know if any of his places are options based on his read of the scheme, or if he's simply running his route in areas that the defense happens to have broken down in.

Point was after #89 1st 2 season who thought he would be a #1 raise your hands?

I'll wait.

Nobody can say for sure right now what Lafell can develop into. What we do know is he had some of the best hands in the NFCS when giving a chance.

Even if he can't separate, it doesn't matter cuz he pulls down anything in his vicinity. The dude has hands. Check it yo. And that was from Matt Moore.

I'd be happy with him as our #1 and Gettis at 2. Good thing is though, we have Smitty, so LaFell and Gettis can grow while he finishes out his career giving us time to draft a slot guy if 11 or 12 develop into a true #1 or a to draft a different #1 if not.

    • The panthers offense right now is spiritually the same as the 2010s Seahawks. They want to keep it close until the fourth quarter and then try to pull a rabbit out of their hat. instead of running marshawn into the line 30 times a game, we’re throwing 20 passes behind the line of scrimmage. And instead of Russell Wilson bullshit, we’re getting 20 yard drives to set up a 55 yard field goal. Also that team had multiple hall of famers and we’ve got the worst qb in the league by whatever collections of metrics you want to use
    • So if Bryce could have come to Carolina with the same advantages he had every year at Alabama he would have been successful. Good coaches. Top recruiting classes far better than the opposition. Defense able to bail him out if he has a bad game.  Still doesnt change anything regarding footwork, mechanics, drop backs, reading the field, poor placement or any of the other myriad of issues that are still present in year 3.  Bryce wasn't ready to be the day 1 starter. There's nothing wrong with that. Dalton was clearly the more capable QB, as evidenced by what happened in Seattle in the rain, under extreme pressure. Same players, same coach, same terrible offensive line. Two different offenses.  When you look at Bryce and what he's done in game over the course of 3 years it's not pretty. He has moments of good, but there's been a lot more WTF. But saying Bryce would have been able to lead a team to the playoffs? Based on what we saw from him, he probably would have spent a good bit of year one on the bench holding a clipboard.
    • Feels on brand for Mike Brown.  He's very anti trade.
