The Perfect 1St Day Draft

Recommended Posts

How many DT's do you have going in the 1st round??

Most boards have Cox, Brockel, Poe, and Still all graded higher than Worthy. If you are correct, that means 5 DT's go in the 1st 25 picks?

Or maybe you don't know what your talking about

CBS Sports Scouts have Worthy ranked as the 23rd best player in the draft.

Scouts Inc. has Worthy rated at a 90, which is one point higher than Still (89), and have him as the 32nd best player.

NFL.com's mocks have him going at 25.

Mike Mayock of NFL.com has Worthy as the fourth best DLineman behind Poe, Cox, and Brockers.

So, yes, I do think he'll go in the Top 25, ahead of Still who has dropped somewhat out of favor. Maybe you're the one who don't know what you're talking about?

Condescending douche.

Still has fallen out of the first. Brockers hurt his stock at the combine. Cox, Worthy, and Poe are the top three DT's. Still has injury concerns. Poe is seen as a workout warrior that did not produce on the field. Worthy and Cox are top on my board.

I think a lot of people are putting their hopes and dreams in Beason and Davis returning to form..........

no you are just over valuing the LB position in a 4-3. i like Wagner, Kendricks, Lewis, Brown, Shea and if Hightower falls in the 2nd a lot more.

No, I just think a lot of people would rather have Beason and Davis, even not up to 100%, while upgrading our secondary or DL over drafting a LB in the top 10 and having to wait another round to upgrade our two most glaring holes on defense.

The mock drafts are fun to look at but what an employed General Manager sees and what a TV analyst sees are two totally different things. They have different information available to them as well. Jimmy Clausen was projected in many mocks to be a top 5 pick. If the Panthers hadn't drafted him he may have dropped to the third round. In contrast Aaron Rodgers was projected by some to be the 1st overall pick and he damn well should have been.

If they remocked the 2005 draft Justin Tuck would go in the top 10. The Giants didn't pick him until the third round. So if you read up on a guy and have an opinion fine. But don't take the mocks as gospel. Charley Casserly is a guy I like but he has Devon Stil going 9th. ESPN has him going in the mid second round.

He has Devon Still going 20th. He has Poe going 9th to us.

LB's havnt gone early in the 1st due to the contracts that would normally be due. With a structured rookie wage scale, I believe you will start seeing WR's, RB's, LB,s maybe even TE's slipping into the 1st round.

LBs don't go early 1st because they aren't as high impact players as QBs, LTs, DEs, DTs, not because of any contract reason.

Exactly.

The draft has a pretty rigid structure.

QBs are most important.

Then come LTs (or RTs, if your team randomly has a left handed QB)

Followed closely by Dline.

Then, you see teams start to target RBs and WRs, your skill positions. However, RBs are definitely starting to lose value in the draft because of the rookie wage scale. Now teams can take fliers on other positions, and grab a RB in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th round.

Then come LBs, CBs, etc.
