Getting Db Crazy

Recommended Posts

We seem to be stockpiiling DB's, but not corners.... Could mean two things 1. We will take a corner in the draft, or 2. we will take a pass rush expert.

The latter seems more likely since it is doubtful that Claiborne will fall to us and the experts seem to think no other corner is worthy of that pick. The pass rush class seems to be stacked with just pass top ten level talent. What do you guys think?

We seem to be addressing OL and S in free agency. Rather typical of Hurney.

From who we have brought in and interviewed (I know we do not know the complete list) It seems that we are interested in drafting LB, WR, DL.

I have not seen much at CB interviewed--I think we talked to Dwight Bently, a smallish (179 lb) small school player who could fall to fourth. I am thinking they like Hogan and they want to build the pass rush first, which makes sense.

At DE, have they decided Hardy is not the answer? What about Keiser, who had 4 sacks in limited playing time? Can they get more pass rush out of Applewhite? I think we address DE, but not if we don't do it in rounds 1 or 2.

At DT, the prospects are a bit questionable to warrant the 9th pick. They are either workout warriors, one-hit wonders, or very raw. We get Edwards added to the mix and our 4 first year players (Shirley, Kearse, Fua, and McClain) will be much improved. I am not sold on the fact that we address DT, but if we do, it could be a late rounder like that kid from Canada or Martin from Michigan.

I think we are going WR or LB early. Most people think we are set at WR. That is wishful thinking--regardless, we seem to be interested in WRs.

Michael Floyd or Luke Kuechley--Possibly a Coples or Ingram--it is really hard to tell.

It's also possible that they are much higher on Brandon Hogan than we're aware of and believe he's going to be the 2nd starting corner.

Just while we're listing possibilities. Not every single thing to do with the team right now must mean something about the draft.

Thank you for saying this, it is the point that I was trying to express. Raw is the perfect word to describe the projected top defensive tackles in the draft.

I'm at the point where they're going to go BPA, and hopefully it's Tannehill, that way we can trade down and get maybe two late first or a late first and early 2nd, i mean something like that, where then we could get the best DT and DE available, take the best CB/LB in the 2nd, grab a TE in the 3rd.

We could trade back, but why draft players (and sign free agents) and then not give them time to develop? You are right, in my opinion.

There's no way the Browns pass on Tannehill.

Sure they can get Blackmon/Floyd to give McCoy a weapon, but then they'd still be stuck with McCoy.

    • It is a tough decision.  There is another factor.  Is he in game shape?  A tired Hunt is not better than an "in-shape" Corbett.  When coming off an injury, it is natural to want to protect the injured area, even if it is completely healed.  This can cause you to contort your body for no reason, lose fundamentals, and it could lead to other injuries.  For example, I had a knee in high school that required getting taped.  That made me aware of the knee (not used to tape on my knee) and I pulled my groin (favoring or dragging the leg with the tape).  The trainer explained the groin injury the way I do here--but scared money makes no money.  If he is cleared to play, he is cleared to play.  Watch him, rotate him in for a series, etc.  Specifically, I would want to watch the matchup--who is winning more--Corbett or Hunt?  How is the defense reacting (if at all) to Hunt being in?  Etc.
    • Shannon was sued for $50 million (settled out of court, I believe) for forcing sex on his girlfriend during a two-year relationship.  He denies it, but ESPN let him go last April.  Chad Johnson's wife filed a police report because he head-butted her in a car and was put on probation. I had to google it.  I watched the Ray Rice video and when you see it, you realize just how vile and cowardly abusing a woman really is.  But for the same point Aussie tried to make, these women are defenseless, and being phyiscally bigger and stronger does not validate your actions.   I can't even stand to watch Steve Smith.  I can't normalize this kind of behavior--again, I do not think R-P had that in mind when he posted this.  When the reason was exposed, we should realize that we are talking life (quality of) and death (in some cases) here.
    • I can respect the fact that we should not glorify or normalize men who have a history of beating women.  I do not think anyone was thinking of that when they posted this, but if head-butting your wife and unconsensual sex (rape) is something you cannot overlook, I agree with that.  I think they are both half-crazed attention hounds regardless of their pasts.
