I Just Watched 6 Games Worth Of Quinton Coples Snaps...

Just watched 6 games worth of snaps from Coples on YouTube from this year and last and I've come to one conclusion:

The guy is fuging terrible. Just awful. It's not even the lack of a motor (but it could be) it's the fact that he makes zero impact. He gets pushed out of the play on almost every snap. Some of the times he was being double teamed, sure, but even when he wasn't he made no real impact on the play. The few good plays he made were almost always a result of simply being so much stronger than the lineman blocking him that he just overpowered him. That won't happen in the NFL against pro linemen.

I'm really trying to get on this bandwagon as it looks like we're genuinely interested in this guy, but I really don't see it. I can't understand how Marty Hurney, a huge game tape guy, can seriously be thinking of drafting this guy.

I honestly feel like, if we take him, he'll be Hurney's first bust in the 1st round. I like almost every pass rusher projected to go before the 3rd round better than Coples. Nick Perry, Vinny Curry, and any number of other 2nd round guys look a LOT better than Coples to me. Melvin Ingram is a FAR superior football player. Sure, Coples looks the part moreso than Ingram, but as far as on the field, Ingram blows him away across the board.

I'm still on the Cox bandwagon, but if he's gone I would much rather have any of these guys over Coples:

- Melvin Ingram

- Stephon Gilmore (who I'm also not a huge fan of)

- Michael Floyd

- David DeCastro

- Mark Barron

- Janoris Jenkins

- Dre Kirkpatrick

- Jerel Worthy

I know a lot of folks here like Coples, but being a homestate prospect doesn't make him a good pick or player. If every fan of in-state teams had their way we'd be 1-15 every year with all N.C. State, UNC, ECU, Duke, Wake Forest, and App. State players.

I know Hurney's never missed in the 1st round, which gives me hope that maybe I'm just missing something with Coples, but honestly, this could be the one that goes wrong if we really do make Coples our pick. We badly need this pick to work for this team to continue improving and we can't afford another Everette Brown - not in the 2nd and certainly not at 9th overall.

Please. Let's not get into the "it's not really game tape" debate here. No poo it's not game tape. But you can sure as poo tell when the guy you're watching is as bad as Coples was in those vids.

More UNC homers who'd rather have their boy than the best player.

I would be pretty upset if we took Coples early in the first round but that's really only because I feel like there will be players available who can make a larger more immediate impact. If you watch more of his play he does have some skills and he does have the physical tools to be very good.

If he goes to a team with the right situation / coach he could very well turn into a solid / exceptional player...he's just not right for an early first round pick. He is still a kid basically and the football climate at UNC hasn't exactly been utopia lately (and no, for the record, I am not a Tar Heel fan...I'm in the "please don't let those assholes win at anything" club when it relates to UNC)

It has more to do with coming to a conclusion based on YouTube clips, which have been picked and chosen by the uploader.

The videos have every snap the player takes from a given game. They're not "picked and chosen" by the uploader, they just put all the snaps together into one video.

Well you lose credibility when you say.

The guy is fuging terrible. Just awful.

He would not be a projected top 15 pick if this was the case.

So stop exaggerating. its childish.

If Rivera took precious pre-draft time to meet with him, again. Then he is not terrible, hes not even just okay. He is a super talented player, who could have a huge impact on this Defense.

If Rivera and Hurney, who have watch tons and tons of real game tape, think he is worthy of visits, then he is much better than what you are saying.

Btw, he was top 6 in QB hurries.

Stop being ridiculous.

Btw, I am a fuggin NC State fan.

In short: Dude is Butt. He looks like he's always on valum when they interview him and mumbles more than Shaq, so I have hard time thinking he's gonna get to get jacked up to play on Sundays . Who knows maybe Rivera can get him a Temperpedic bed and a cattle prod

    • Right...I think they've done really well. No one's going to bat 1000% but they've addressed areas of need and there's no comparison to the overall talent of the team now than when DC and then Morgan got the reigns. This whole season is about seeing how much of a step up can Bryce and this team make. If Bryce can't and last year is as good as it gets for him then at least we have a talented roster for the next guy. I think we're going to be good this season
    • I said could, not would. I recognize he has potential based on past performance. Compared to what KP has done, Howell has more potential and the physical traits to make noise. KP has small hands and a weak arm. Not something you want in even your backup QB.  I've been hammering since last off-season before we re-signed Dalton, improve the room. Other than getting younger, I don't see how anyone can say we legitimately improved the room or even tried. We might as well have signed Josh Rosen.  Dalton is still on the roster for now. That's 3 QBs unless we trade or cut him. He's still Bryce's mentor after all. Do you believe we are going to draft someone with potential and give them a legitimate opportunity to develop from the practice squad? Are we going to carry 3 QBs on the active roster? 4 for a developmental rookie? Are we going to potentially cut KP if we draft a rookie and he's outperformed? Doubtful. Cutting Dalton(if we can't trade him) and KP would be 8m in wasted cap space.  I chose Howell as an example because he showed promise in his only full season as a starter. You could plug in another name with the physical traits and potential and what i said would still apply. KP showed almost nothing and was benched. I genuinely don't care if it’s rookie pick as long as there is the potential to develop into a future NFL QB.  As much as I can't stand him, Bellichek was always developing a number 2 QB even with the GOAT as his starter. The wisdom of that was evident when Cassell came in when Brady was hurt week 1 and went 11-5 and almost made the wildcard, which 11-5 gets you almost any other year. I give credit where it's due though. Cassel and Jimmy G both came into the league as developmental QBs, potential QB1s, and went on to have careers.  You never know if you never try. KP feels like a punt in addressing the most important position on the field. Bryce has never played 2 full games of franchise QB level football back to back.  If Bryce progresses, are you ready to offer a 280m 5 year extension based off a one hit wonder year? If Bryce regresses and we need a QB in 27, are we going to trade a fortune away again to trade up to 1 to get one? Are you ready to do the past 3 years all over again?  To me, it's not about Kenny Pickett. It's about the move itself. It was a feeble attempt to improve the QB room. We better hope Bryce succeeds, because if he doesn't, we literally have no backup plan right now.
    • IOL that early isn’t good value at all. We have a LT who might not ever be good again and a RT that might retire soon. T seems deep early in this draft, so I’d go there in the 1st.
