Thomas Davis To Safety

Has-Been

Recommended Posts

Hey regulars - I may be guilty of having a bad idea - I may be guilty of not posting 100 threads -But I'm not guilty of trolling - or intentially stirring the pot - or not being an avid panther fan.

The idea is that of scheme - or ocassional coverage - given that TD could be our best blitzer when healthy - but prior to last year's injury he was faster than the other backers as well..... not to mention safety was clearly a wasted spot last year.

By the way - if it's the same ole guys - saying the same ole post - with the same ole perspectives - it kinda feels like a circle-jerk around here.

I just through out a hypothetical -

Well, the Jerk Store called, and they're running out of you...

very well

the idea is more sound than many are giving credit for. However it all depends on how well he is. If he is well enough to blitz on obvious passing downs as a 4th LB (robber) then he is likely good enough to play his natural spot. If he can run, which he can, he will be in shape. I do not think they are going to try to hide him or spare him in any way. The guy says he is ready to play "19 games" this year and finish the season in New Orleans in the SB. I cannot see keeping him off the field but the position changes have yet to be determined with the addition of Luke anyway.

At the very least it seems as if we will have a wealth of talent and have to make decisions on where to plug it in as opposed to last year where we had a talent deficiency at LB and plugged in whoever was healthy. Bot scenarios offer an opportunity to fail but in different ways. I am glad we are dealing from the wealthy side of things this year regardless and I won't put anything past Riv on defense. He has always figured a way to get the most talent on the field no matter how wonky it seemed. For him it has worked in the past with some strange sets.

So to clarify, TD could play a situational robber. He has the skills and it is very similar to his spot anyway. But to say he may be moved to safety is not only a failed effort from the past but a scary thought for a guy with as many years as he has and as many injuries as he has.

Don't take it personally when the normal types form a circle jerk around you despite your insistence that that wasn't your intent to "troll".

I think that if TD can expand his usefulness in lb play, safety play, and special teams...he's more likely to have a solid spot on our roster for a long time. I distinctly remember TD putting a young rookie upstart in Green Bay out of NFL football for a hit he laid on him exposing a spinal issue the kid had. TD is a player and if Keuchly is the man everyone thinks he is, TD will probably gladly take on other duties to ensure some longevity with the Panthers. I love TD and his playmaking abilities. People thinking he's more/less susceptable to injury playing a safety instead of a linebacker must not see how Olinemen love to cut down on LBers in run plays. Injuries happen regardless of where you are.

Where are you getting this information? Before I tore my ACL I was clocked at high 4.5- mid 4.6's a year after my surgery I was consistently being clicked in the mid 4.4 to low 4.5 range...

I've torn my ACL, partially torn my LCL and suffered a slew of other injuries that do not relate to this topic. Generally speaking your ACL replacement is not as well fitted as your ACL once was. If a doctor were to 'string' your new ACL too tightly you would run the risk of limited knee mobility, i.e. the ability to pull your leg back to your butt.

The bigger problem is actually mental. Ask someone to take a hit who's undergone knee surgery. That alone will slow you down.

For reference, my surgery was done by the Wake Forest Baptist Hospital doctor who was/is contracted to perform surgeries for Wake Forest athletics.

And if it made everyone faster athletes would have it done. Like LASIC for golf.
