How exactly is your defensive scheme going to work?

Recommended Posts

I'm more curious about your defense then anything on the team as I'm already sold on your halfbacks and Smith on offense.

Wondering what type of scheme you guys are running on defense this year and what each position on defense is slated to do.

Like I heard it was a Tampa 2 scheme with man to man coverage with your corners?... Not sure exactly how thats going to work out but who is doing what on your defense this year (I don't need the names of the talent as I know most of your defense)... just wondering what the DT, DE, LBs, Secondary do for the most part and how often you guys blitz and what not...

Well, Meeks has been mum on what he says about it, but we do know that the scheme we're going to run is going to depend on mainly pressure from the front 4, keeping the linebackers in tight zone to recover in case of a run, but I do imagine since we are talking about a Fox team here, you'll still see a lot of 4-3 mixed into it with linebackers still blitzing every now and then. That's pretty much all I can say, if I told you anymore I'd have to kill you.

lol alright.. just wondered how playing man to man coverage with your corners and playing a zone with the rest of your defense, how it was going to translate. Anymore info would be nice.

I haven't read that anywhere. Link?

hadn't heard really anything about man coverage but from what i can tell is that it is going to be a hybrid of a few things.

pretty much, though, the bulk of the pressure on the QB is going to come from the front four. the secondary is going to be using a very aggressive zone focused on breaking up routes and attacking where the ball goes either disrupting the passes or aggressively hitting and stripping the ball. they are going to have to be quicker and much more aware of what is going on than before. the LBs will be covering the middle of the field controlling the run and helping out with coverage.

nothing earth shatteringly different in the concept but in the way it is going to be carried out and the attention to detail compared to what we have had before will be very different. the aggressiveness will also be a pretty big difference from what i can tell.

I doubt we play a lot of man coverage this year. We don't really have what you would call shut down corners and in man coverage it is vulnerable to the run. Plus if you put the corners in man coverage on the wideouts, you still have to have the linebackers play a short zone to account for extra receivers going to the hole vacated when the corner is taken deep, halfbacks and fullbacks are coming out of the backfield, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if we put man coverage on the slot receiver when we go to the nickel or if we decide to play man specifically on a player like a Fitzgerald, or Randy Moss, TO, etc.

But overall we have largely run a zone scheme for the time that Fox has been here and that is what Meeks does the best. So I figure we will run a cover 2 zone under with a few wrinkles and changes to mix things up each week.

But then again, what do I know?????

    • I’m an optimist thru and thru. I love any win this team can muster, and Bryce did what he could to keep the team in it, but he’s why the team was out of it to begin with.  I like the guy, but he is not… he’s just not it… and I was swayed by the way he finished last season, but his physical limitations will never be overcome. A one arm tackle stopped him in his tracks en route for 6, among several other plays where an even average starter in the league succeeds.  A franchise QB is supposed to be his own cheat code. Bryce needs a cheat code dude, that is not him, to win. Chuba CARRIED (literally) his ass last season. Thielen bailed him out EVERY game he played in last season. Today: Rico turned in one of the best games in franchise history, Tet was unguardable and put up at least 100 yards on his own (PI yards included),  and the defense basically pitched a shutout after going down big so they could beat one of the worst teams in the NFL.
    • Jimmy came thru today I hope he is active next week   (2) NFL on X: "Bryce Young to Jimmy Horn Jr. on 4th down! MIAvsCAR on FOX/FOX One https://t.co/HkKw7uXVnt https://t.co/FYOfsxtAMk" / X
    • Rico 10000% saved Bryce Young from being benched for the Dallas game.  The way that game was going there was going to be no way to trot Bryce out next week at home if it kept going like it did.  Bryce probably is safe from bench risk until the next home and home presents itself.    He can’t be playing bad going into that next Atl game and then lay an egg in it.
