From the end of the 03-04 season.

First up, a synopsis of the divisional game against the Rams.

Second, an NFL Films review of both the Ram and Eagle games.

And last, the entire overtime period from the Rams game, right up through X-Clown.

A little analysis from clip three:

A lot has been made of it before, but it's worth mentioning again. One of the big turns of the game is near the end of regulation when Mike Martz makes an absolutely terrible decision to pull back the reins and go for the tie rather than the win. At game's end, the Rams were surging and the Panthers were on their heels. had Martz been a better decision maker, they might have won (but then that's why Martz is lousy as a head coach, isn't it?)

On the Ricky Manning interception (just after 39:00) watch the reverse angle replay. Marc Bulger had the opportunity to throw to a wide open Torry Holt but hesitated, instead gesturing for Holt to move further outside, but Holt doesn't go all that far. That hesitation is what gives Ricky Manning the chance to step in front of Holt and make the pick. If Bulger has a little more confidence and throws the ball at his first opportunity, that interception doesn't happen and the result of the game is likely very different.

And last, the moment everyone will automatically gravitate to occurs at a little after the 43 minute mark. When you watch the replays, look at Steve Smith's eyes. As he's running, there is a look on his face of something between uncertainty and fear almost right up until the moment he crosses the goal line. It's not until the last that he realizes nobody is going to catch him, elation rolls over his face like a river and his arms spread wide in triumph.

Good memories indeed :D

My favorite memory is watching the Panthers beat the Dallas Cowboys in the 1996 postseason. I'll post the hulu link but there are commercials.

This Dallas team was loaded with Hall of Famers and we dominated them.

I remember that, Barry Switzer before the game said some poo like , yeah I dont even know where Charlotte is. After we beat em someone grabbed a camera and yelled "YOU KNOW WHERE CHARLOTTE IS NOW BABY?!?! WOOoo!!!

edit: pretty sure he got canned after that too

I remember people selling cattle selling cars. Selling whatever they had to buy tickets lol.

(okay, maybe it wasn't all that valiant) :lol:

I remember during the second half of the 2003 Cowboy game, ABC ran a couple of segments with Jerry Jones talking about his hiring of Bill Parcells. It was pretty clear those were made with the expectation that the Cowboys would be winning the game big by the time they were aired. Given the way it actually played out, they made little to no sense, but they chose to run them anyway :lol:

The following week, some analyst (I forget who) wrote an article predicting how all the games for the Divisional Weekend were going to be barnburners, except one. He believed the Rams would "throttle the Panthers". As I recall though, most of the other games were snoozers, and ours was designated by NFL Films as their "Game of the Year".

The doubters just made it that much more satisfying :D

      Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.

      Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.

      My top-5 JAGS: 1. Tommy Tremble: May not ever be top-tier, but has been solid and you never doubt the effort. 2. Cade Mays: Not bad for a 6th rounder. Hated to see him go. 3. Brady Christensen: One of the most versatile backup OLs in the NFL. Hopefully we re-sign him. 4. Trevis Gipson: Quietly was really solid depth last season. Glad we brought him back. 5. Brycen Tremayne: Has been solid depth at WR, flashing at times last year.
