Time to confess about the 2011 draft

well 2011 had one of the best first rounds in my recent memory. the entire top 5 picks are all on pace to be extremely good players (cam, dareus, peterson, miller, green), in fact you really couldn't go wrong in picking any of those guys. Personally I wanted dareus or peterson, but I didn't do my homework on Cam. If i had known what I know now about his college career I would have rather had him over luck.

Initially, I wanted Andrew Luck. I hadn't seen any of Cam other than highlights and bought into the Luck hype. Which I still do, I think he's going to be a stud for Indy, but that's beside the point.

After Luck said he was going back to Stanford, I had a period of about 2 weeks where I essentially stopped seriously thinking about taking a QB. I didn't see Cam as worth it (he was still projected around 5-10 range at that point) and never thought Gabbert was worth a damn. I hated the idea of taking Nick Fairley, but I bounce back and forth between A.J. Green and Marcel Dareus.

Then Cam had his 'media workout' session and it was the first time that I really sat down and watched him and got to know him as a prospect. I watched interviews with him, did some research on his background, the trouble at Florida, his time at Blinn, etc. It was around this time that I hopped on the Cam bandwagon. IIRC, I was one of the more vocal supporters of drafting Cam here at the time.

Those debates were epic

Its all a beautifull plan with forces uncontrollable to us (to a pt) directing this team to greatness. After the meltdown of Jake in that last playoff game and then Clausen'10. "Luck" sealed the deal. Embrace it because its not stopping for anybody, except us of course.

I wanted AJ Green. From all the highlights I seen it didn't look like Cam could throw.

How dare you wear his jersey.

Oh god here comes grits, please tell us how much he sucks and how andy dalton and rg3 are better.

Someone said "lighting up the NFL". I don't see how winning six games vs subpar opponents is lighting up the NFL. Dalton had an amazing season and RGIII looks blessed for greatness but thats not what we are talking about here.

It was a complicated process for me, I originally wanted Gabbert but after digging deeper I didn't like what I saw so I started to go through a lot of the other "top players" to try and figure out who to go after. i was really hesitant to like Cam at first because I heard little, if anything positive about him at first. Didn't like Fairley because of his attitude, didn't want Miller because we were a 4-3 team, PP was good but I don't value corners as first overall picks and AJ Green is tremendous but what is he going to do with Jimmy Claussen throwing to him? Dareus seemed like a solid choice but he just lacked that "wow" factor that the elite DTs usually show.

I gave in and started watching some highlights of Newton and was impressed but it wasn't until I started watching full games that I really started to fall in love with him a a prospect. Even back to his Blinn days he showed a lot of promise and he was much more accomplished throwing the ball than I ever realized. Once we drafted him I felt realy good about the decision and once he started putting in some serious work, all concerns just melted away, until preseason came around then some worry set in...

Team sport. Wins and losses aren't a stat that tells much about an individual performance. Mark Sanchez for example....had plenty of wins his first 2 yrs. Some like to brag he quickly became the record holder for most road wins in the playoffs....

But that is a team stat. Not a Sanchez stat. Newton poo'd all over Sanchez as a rookie

Haha show Cam in the probowl where he looked overwhelmed in the spotlight. I DARE YOU.

And again, this isn't about Dalton. You guys draw his name like a gun.

Anybody with half a brain knows...

If you would have out Tom Brady under C in a Pro Bowl game with his team playing Pro Bowl offense.....and had a D go full throttle against that unit trying to hit him and show him up.

Brady woud of been rattled. Only way out would have been to spike the ball everydown and refuse to participate if both teams arent playing the same game. He would have been a sitting duck for slaughter.

Only difference is if they pulled that BS move with against a Brady....there would have been media outrage and the NFL likely would have been pushed to cancel the game in the future.
