http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8269394/nfl-big-book-2012-top-200-nfl-player-rankings

This just came out today on ESPN.com, Scouts Inc. ranked 2500 different players (excluding rookies). They ranked the top 200 players overall by "grade" out of 100, then did positional rankings. #1 overall not surprisingly was Aaron Rodgers who was graded as a 97. Our guys who made the top 200 players in the league:

Steve Smith (#28) Grade: 88

Jordan Gross (#74) Grade: 86

Cam Newton (#85) Grade: 84

Jon Beason (#112) Grade: 83

Ryan Kalil (#141) Grade: 81

Jonathan Stewart (#144) Grade: 81

Charles Johnson (#160) Grade: 80

Chris Gamble (#190) Grade: 80

For positional rankings, grade in parenthesis:

QB: Cam was ranked #11 (84) (just ahead of Ryan and Vick, but behind Cutler, Romo, and Stafford)

RB: Johathan Stewart ranked #14 (81), Deangelo Williams at #17 (79)

(Darren McFadden at #6, and Ryan Mathews at #12??)

FB: No Panthers

WR: Steve Smith ranked #4 (88) (Behind Calvin, Fitz, and Andre). No other Panthers in the top 50.

TE: Greg Olsen ranked #20 (76) (behind Tony Moeaki, Zach Miller, and Brent Celek?!?)

OT: Jordan Gross is #6 (84), recently released Panther Jeff Otah is #34 (76) (lol)

Guard: No Panthers in the top 50

Center: Ryan Kalil is #4 (81)

DE: Charles Johnson at #20 (80) , Greg Hardy at #36 (77) (seems low for CJ, especially given how much better he is than Hardy)

DT: Ron Edwards at #46 (72)

LB: Jon Beason at #17 (83), Thomas Davis at #46 (77), James Anderson at #50 (76) (They are counting 3-4 OLBs as part of this)

CB: Chris Gamble at #19 (80) , no other Panthers (unsurprisingly)

S: Charles Godfrey at #28 (76)

K: Olindo Mare at #32 (49) (LOLOL)

P: No Panthers

On Olsen. He came from a Bears offense that didn't use TE much in the passing game. His best season arguably was last year and some Panther fans say Shockey was better. We all know his potential but he has yet to show all of that for a whole season.

After this year however, I fully expect him to fly up the list.

    • We’re in a pickle.. My best hope is we protect him and can run the ballvs most Ds and the WRs are healthy he has every chance to not look like what he looked like in too many games last year.
    • I'm really not stressing about upgrading from Bryce. I'm frustrated with our inability (or refusal) to recognize overall bad QB performance and failure to seriously address the issue. QB is the most impactful position on the field, and we're not only settling for what we've been given to this point, but we've rewarded it with a fully guaranteed 5th year extension for a player that's never played 2 NFL franchise QB quality games back to back in 3 seasons. I can't understand how that's ok from a coach's or GM's viewpoint. Successful franchises don't do things like this. It just doesn't make sense.  We do not have a top half of the league QB right now. Since we don't have that player, we should be looking for him. Pickett isn't it. Grier isn't it. Bryce hasn't proven he is yet. Until you have that sure fire franchise QB, you keep looking. You're not consistently making the playoffs, a deep run, or a SB appearance without one.  What's the worst that could happen? We end up with 2 potential number 1 QBs? How horrible.
    • Easy to understand Pickett, if this is anywhere close to on point. Canales wants to get as close to Bryce as he can- get the pace and timing in the throws as close a he can to Bryce. So the other players don’t have to adjust so much, to a new guy.       If Cam was the 1, he would look for a rocket arm.  But Bryce is the 1. Look for limited in the same way.  Low velocity, plenty of air under it, feels just like home when Picket comes in. And you have the guys on the second team not having such a radical adjustment (if they have to play) like with Dalton to Bryce.    Enter Grier. I guess we will collect those types.
