Busted my laptop, need help

So I stepped on my laptop last night and this morning when I opened there's a huge ink blotch on the screen. :(

Felt like I would get a more straight forward answer by asking on here. What is the cheapest/best way to fix this?

-go to that site floppin posted and buy an LCD there

-google *your laptop model* + take apart/tear apart/disassemble (your choice) or failing that check the manufacturer's website because a lot of them actually put their service manuals online

-pat yourself on the back for the $300 you saved by learning the DIY method for this

sorry, i assume most people are technical morons (no offense bwood...) it depends completely on what type of machine you have.

i've replaced mac screens before and it's an unholy f*cking nightmare as well as absurdly expensive.

but I should've specified that macs were the angle i was coming from.

WHen you take your screen out it will have the specs right there on it. Just make sure you buy the matching one.

Macs make everything concerning hardware to be retardedly complicated. It's just another closed source tactic.

You have a few options:

1) Replace the screen yourself.

2) Pay someone to replace the screen for you.

3) Use the laptop as a desktop; Buy a monitor and hook your laptop up to the monitor for now on. No more portability.

Assuming you want to continue to use the portable feature of a laptop, replacing it yourself is the cheapest option. It's not too difficult if the laptop is large. The thinner the laptop, the more difficult the process is simply because there is more precision, smaller parts and more delicacy required.

If you post the laptop model, people here will probably help you find a replacement part. Various sites sell LCD screens. You can usually find some used ones on ebay.

You'll likely be able to find a guide to the process online. Check the guide to see if it seems like something you'd be able to do.
