2013 Draft Picks

Jerry Rice played at a competitive level for 18 seasons. Steve is about to enter his, what, 11th? Now Rice is obviously an exception, not the rule, but I think to say that Steve is getting too old and we need to be looking for his replacement now is disrespectful to him. I think we'll know when we need to search for his replacement, but he's a #1 right now, and we have a decent core behind him who will suffice as 2, 3, and 4's for now.

Sure Smitty can play still at a high level for 3-5 years, but one day he'll be at best a 2nd or third option. And that's a good thing for Smitty and us. Find our no.1 of the future and put Smitty in the slot.

We can't always lean on Smitty every year. The best team knows how to use their players. Dnt over use an aging player just bc he's your best player.

Yeah, but what I'm saying is why address the issue so far before we need to? Of course he'll need a replacement, but he doesn't now. Defense and special teams is hurting right now, so why would we focus on something that is set for at least a few years.

Think Ochocinco in Cinci. He starts to decline, the Bengals pick up AJ Green who performs right away. And if we don't trust a rookie receiver to perform right away, we can either pick up a free agent or just split between what we have at the time (Smith, Lafell, Murphy, Gettis, etc), even if none of them are a defined #1.

Not sure what are pressing needs will be at the end of the season but at this point I think CB needs to be addressed if there is still one worth taking in the first two rounds. I would like to see Lafell and Murphy step up big time and not even have to address WR, time will tell on that one. Some one needs to step up and take Smitty's spot eventually, or go to the draft.

Cincy situation is different. Chad was a knuckle head who wanted to leave and the FO wasn't planning on bringing him back. Cincy was lucky enough to be in a situation where a WR of that caliber was still on the board when it was their pick.

WR is a need no matter what you think. Smitty is aging, Lafell and Murphy hasn't prove anything of being a top elite WR. They're good dependable no.2 WR for Cam but not great. When you have a young QB as good as Cam, it's better early than late to give him a young weapon going into the future. You rather be in a situation to have a young WR who could become elite being your no.1 and having Smitty as a no.2 than an aging Smitty as your no.1 and nothing behind that.

Just saying if a Kaneen Allen or Justin Hunter is on the board when it's our pick, it's a blessing for us to pull the trigger on one of them. DT can be solve through FA and S in the 2nd round. We're good with a vet like Dwan Edwards for a couple more years. Oh well, it's too early for this talk. So we'll let the season play out itself.

I'm going with DE, CB, & S in no particular order. But D-line is top priority atm

I still see Kearse making big strides this year especially with a vet at 3-tech to learn with

Ron w/ Fua is fine for me also as long as Edwards stays healthy

I should have clarified, I meant going into next season.

I posted a mock from SI two days after this years draft. I'd take the mock w/ a huge grain of salt but the writer had us selecting the absolute monster From UGA Jarvis Jones.

I know we're going to need a corner/OT and I doubt he will be there when we pick but holy crap I would love to get him.

    • Over previous years? Sure is 😆
    • An odd little vibe I've noticed here of late: some folks are "all or nothing" to an absolutely extreme level when it comes to Bryce. Here's a bit of truth telling though: There are, in fact, things Bryce does well. Likewise, there are areas in which he's improved over his time here. He has, on several occasions now, legitimately helped us win games. On the flipside, there have been failures in other areas as well as coaching that we're not in any way his fault.  And finally , it is also genuinely possible that the team may see him as the future, even if we don't. The craziest part, though? It's actually possible that they're right and we're wrong. All of this is true, and more, yet if you accept any of these premises people go from zero to apesh-t in under three seconds 😳 Anything less than total disavowal of Bryce and / or agreement that he's the worst QB of all time and suddenly you're a "stan". Oy 🙄 The reality though?  Bryce is indeed an NFL quarterback. Not a great one, probably backup level good, and I've seen way worse. Now, if you run that statement through your personal Google translator and it comes back with some version of "I want to throw 50 million a year at Bryce for the next 10 years", that's not really my issue it's yours  I don't wanna make him the franchise quarterback, but it's not my call. Win or lose, the team is going to do what they think is best. And as always, if it disagrees with what I think we should do, I'm gonna hope I'm the one who's wrong. Internet clout means nothing. Watching my favorite team win at my favorite sport meas fun 😁
