UNBIASED: Thats a good article and I'm confident that both the both the coaches and cam are discussing and correcting the exact same issues the writer informs us about. IMO he can only get better from this.

BIASED: fug this poo man it was everyone else's and their mothers fault this writer is just a cam hater like the rest of them he has no clue!!!

Can't really argue with that. We've all known for a long time that he had footwork issues and the likelihood that one season under his belt could completely fix the problem was low. He was under pressure all day - easy to slip back into bad habits when you're harried.

He's a talented young man with an extreme desire to be better. He'll be fine.

I was expecting him to be a bit more polished after a year of starts and a complete off season to work on things.

Wondering if we got Vic 2.0.

Let the hate start.

who the fug is "vic". if you mean michael vick, he was much more raw at this point in his career than newton is.

btw newton passed for as many touchdowns and more yards as a rookie than "vic" ever has in any season of his career.

With a clean pocket to work in, Newton had the time to plant his lead foot in the ground, rotate his hips, and follow through to deliver a ball to the back shoulder of Smith. But he didn’t do any of that. Instead, he opened his left hip, cocked back, and attempted to deliver the ball with sheer arm strength instead of rotating his hips like he has been instructed to by coaches.Newton fails to rotate his hips. Because of his lack of hip rotation and follow through, Newton’s pass went in the opposite direction than the one he intended. Ideally, he should have placed the ball outside and on the back shoulder of Smith because that’s the safest and only area where the cornerback or safety can’t make a play. It would have been either a complete or incomplete pass, with no damage done. However, the ball drifted inside because Newton didn’t generate enough power from his lower body to throw it outside.Quarterbacks are taught to generate power from the back leg, which is transferred to the front foot when the hips are rotated and then goes up the hip and shoulder to deliver a throw with proper balance. That wasn’t the case here, however, and as a result, the ball ended up inside of Smith and in the hands of Black.

So had he actually followed proper mechanics this ball wouldn't have been intercepted.

    • I don't believe this at all.
    • His PPG actually did go up a little in Colorado. We will see. I still sort of believe we saw pretty close to the peak of his abilities last year. Not wishing him ill or trashing him in any way. Just tend to believe we did sell high and correctly so.
    • Well, other teams also had an offseason. I honestly agree with him. Right now I have way more faith in Coker ascending then I do XL. I think it's the TE/WR group dragging us down. Plus he does mention that the list was made with WR's very much valued more than RB's and TE's(I understand the thought process). In that context, we have a very aging AT, two "wait and see" second year players(one leaning bust) and a rookie.  I really think this is a very fair rating, on paper and in the offseason. Quite frankly, aside from the aforementioned and aging AT, this is a bunch of guys still trying to prove themselves.  Then when you go to TE, it's easily a bottom 3-4 unit on paper. That is probably being extremely generous.  RB is where we make our hay. Probably a top 5-10 unit. But....he mentions early in the article that he doesn't value the RB units as much.  So, really, it's the weighting of the skill positions that is what really fugs us.
