Eugene Robinson On Bad Tackling Teams: Tackling Is "Want-To"

It says we got over excited at a good victory against the Saints and took a game off after a short week against the Super Bowl Champions.

I'm not concerned. You'll see exactly how much our players "want to" against Atlanta.

I think it is bigger than that.

Again, numerous huddlers have said how lackluster Rivera's camps are and how he rarely rips players for mistakes.

Both Jordan Gross and Rivera laughed in their pressers, like this was just run of the mill, par for the course, completely expected, etc.

Just seems like there isn't a lot of "want to" or passion in general. Just another day at the office.

The thing that was insightful, and I think that explains why Rivera wasn't as pissed off as one would expect him to be, in his presser was how he said how this game was like a little brother getting slapped around by their big brother. I think we might have gone in with the expectation of losing against the Super Bowl champs and as such, didn't feel as bad about getting our asses handed to us afterwards.

Beason and Godfrey were whiffing against the Saints too....

D hasn't played well at all this year. Godfrey made a nice play in a vacuum. Look at what Beason and Godfrey did last week outside their INTs.....they both consistatly are playing weak.

Don't even know what Nakamura is on the field....he makes Godfrey look like a decent option

    • Btw... only Mitch fugging Marner has a better +/- than Key 🔑!!! And, Mitchy needed 5 more games and almost 100 more shifts to get there.
    • I was honestly flabbergasted to see Rod send out Stanky and the boys to to matchup against their top line to start the game. The reason that line has been so effective is because they've been matched mostly against 2nd and 3rd lines all year. You've got last change. Use it to your advantage.
    • Nobody played well on defense last night. But, the vitriol towards Chatfield (and to a lesser extent, K'andre) is bigly misplaced. People (not just you) just refuse to accept how bad Slavin has been this season. And, I get it. Canes fans (and informed analysts) have spent nearly a decade trying to explain to casuals just how good Jaccccob is at hockey. 4Nations happened and the hockey watching public started to listen. National media even started floating the idea of creating a new award in his honor. Then this season, he gets hurt. It happens. NBD. But, when he finally came back, it wasn't the same. He'll get back to his old self in no time. Probably just some rust, it'll be fine. Only, it wasnt rust, and he's not fine. He's bad right now. It wasnt just last night. Although, that was absolutely the worst game of his NHL career. Slavin (-4) currently has the 3rd worst +/- of anyone left in the playoffs. We've  been begging the world to recognize Jaccob Slavin's greatness. And, by the time we finally got people to listen, he shits the bed! I blame Kash!
