Positive effects of being Benched and past quarterbacks that got the message

For a quarterback being benched is probably one of the worse feelings you could ever have because its your job to lead and when you fail at doing that it can be vary deflating but it can also be a huge reality check. For example in 1993 warren moon was benched for being very ineffective in the first 5 games resulting in a 1-4 start. He got the message real quick and the oilers went 11-0 to finish out the year. Another example is john elway who in the first 2 games his sophomore year had 1 touchdown with 5 interceptions was benched. The next game he lit it up and they went on to finish the year 13-3.

I don't know if you guys remember but In 1988 joe montana was benched in a playoff game for being completely awful despite the fact that he had already won two superbowls for the 49ers. needless to say he got the message and went on the win back to back superbowls. As you see a bounce back can happen but cam newton needs to understand that no matter how good you think you are if your not getting it done the team will fine someone else that will. A great man once said " A measure of a man is nor where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy"

Cam newton has 8 days to figure out what type of man he wants to be, is it the man that sits on the bench and sulks or the man that adapts and overcomes in the face of adversity. He did it at auburn lets see if he can do it here.

it's going to be in the game that the light comes on for him.

making him sit won't do much for him, imo.

I think it will, getting benched is a reality check that what your doing is not getting it done.

Was Cam benched because of his play or because there was no chance of a come back and Rivera was simply protecting his superstar? There is a difference in the message being sent..... Hopefully, Smitty sent a strong enough message and Cam woke up Friday morning to an epiphany. My message to Cam.....Stay on your feet, work the sideline, talk with your offense, view defensive formations......get your head out of your a$$! It's not all about you! Man up, learn from your mistakes and inspire, even when things are not going right.

He's not getting it done in part because the coaches consistently put him in a position to fail. Most of his biggest mistakes have come in situations that good coaches avoid putting their QBs into in the first place. Too bad we can't bench the coaching staff.
