Defensive changes?

As we all know Hurney has limited the team big time by not leaving any cap room to solve the biggest weakness' on the team, CB and FS. In a league and more importantly a division that has become extremely pass heavy we have a rookie CB who looks lost and a FS struggling to fit into this system.

I dont think Nakamura is a bad player. He made some bad decisions yesterday that ultimately put ATL in a position to score. He for whatever reason has just not adjusted from the BAL defensive system and is playing up way to much.

I love Norman's passion and heart but he is just not ready to start yet. Unfortunately we dont have a veteran for him to play behind and learn from. He is really having to learn as he goes.

With those two points I wanted to see what the general feeling here on the Huddle is...

Does Sherrod Martin cycle back into the mix? Capt back to the #2 CB? I think both of those moves could make sense simply because they know the system and have experience. Capt lacks the height but he has played well this year with some key break-ups on big 3rd downs. Martin struggled heavily last year but he is a more natural FS in our system. These arent long term solutions but with our hands tied they may be the best option going forward.

Moving Keek to MLB and Beast to OLB would also be a smart move until he is fully back both mentally and physically.

What say you huddlers?

Captain needs to remain the nickel guy

Norman has his growing pains but he does well enough to be number 2 (on this team anyway) and he's willing to lower his shoulder and tackle. He made at least one solo tackle on Turner when he crashed the line. He took him down by himself. He needs to improve his coverage on deep routes

Would love to see Kuechly play every snap whether its OLB or MLB. Either way, it's getting ridiculous the amount of times they remove him for nickel packages. I don't understand it.

Beason needs limited time like Davis. He's playing at like 75% and he looks awful.

I think we have to give Martin another shot. He blew some plays for us last year, but the jury is in and Nakamura clearly is not a starter in this league. Put him in special teams.

Norman stays as the starter opposite of Gamble. Sure he makes some boneheaded plays sometimes, but he also had some great plays against Julio Jones. He has the build to match up with #2 WRs. Captain simply does not.

I'm not quite sure what to do with Beason. I wouldn't be opposed to moving the kid to MLB and moving Beason outside. What is the worst that could happen?

I think this is clearly Martin's redemption shot upcoming and we'll be seeing more and more of Keek and Alexander as the season continues with likely less of Beason

Norman has shown he can play with the big boys for better or worse and if Martin does play like crap, we'll be doing some dumpster diving soon

Martin deserves another chance. FS needs to be able to cover and Naka can't. Norman should stay where he's at. i like the potential and he'll get better as the season moves forward. Luke needs to be in for passing plays. Beason isn't himself and is too much of a liability in coverage. Frank Alexander is pushing for Hardys' position and if he continues to show what he has so far deserves to play opposite C.J. But i think the biggest change I'd like to see is the one we were promised when Ron first got here. I want to see the attacking defense we were promised.

    • Yeah lol well the interest isn’t really about seeking stimulation.  I wanted to see how actually bad it was.  And how much of it was women setting him up to be their cash cow.  That is the stuff that leveraged the Panthers into David Tepper’s hands. It is important in that sense.     The worst that I have heard is that he got them in the car and clumsily reached across to help them with their seat belt and made contact. With his arm. That was probably his big slick move. And I can almost guarantee he wasn’t rejected every time. It is easy to picture that action bringing his head close enough to the woman’s head to where he could go in for the kiss if he thought he got the green light.    I really don’t care if JR was a horn dog. We heard all our lives up until the last few years that one of the perks of being really old is that you can flirt with the young women and it is not just tolerated but expected. So he was keeping a tradition alive at some point 😂
    • Well I rubbed some dirt on it and am still here just not optimistic about the future of the QB position. Even what I had accepted as a ceiling raised to an acceptable level turned out to be a bit of a mirage, upon rewatch of the WC game.  Good plays were there yes, but some pretty bad ones too that the good ones late in the game kind of obscured. I have to downgrade that a little.  Especially after rewatching the last 4 plays. I remember the arguments about he did his job the WRs didn’t but that was really just that last muff by Coker I think it was on our final offensive play.   To the future: I know what my level is for paying him and recommitting, but I don’t have any confidence that the team shares my high bar.    But thanks for the pep talk
