Ok this just dawned on me...

So we know Hurney is gone. With that, what else may be gone? Loyalty. Why? Hurney was loyal to a lot of these players. Hence the big fat contracts and 'taking care' of our own. That's all well and good, but not when it's hindering the progress of the team.

Hurney is now out of the picture, what does that mean? The new GM that comes in will have no loyalty what-so-ever to any of the old vets or players other than the young core of guys. Cam, Kalil, LaFell, Stew, etc.

It would not surprise me if the new GM goes on a trading and Cutting spree and remoulds this roster to cater to Newton.

So guys like DeAngelo, Beason, Gross, Smith, etc. May be on their way out.

Anyone else think this may happen with the new GM?

It'll certainly happen, if they're seen as expendable by the new GM. As long as they show their worth, they'll be fine. It's been said a million times, but nobody's job is safe. They have to earn it from here on out. No more free pass just because Hurney likes you. This is a good thing.

whats with all the captain obvious threads today?? but yeah the new GM should do whatever he has to do to make this team a consistent winner, very happy about the change. others may disagree but the timing of this excites me as well, shows JR isnt as comfortable with inconsistency as we thought...

Man When you sit back and think, Hurney really George W Bushed this team by spending like a drunken sailor with nothing to show for it. D Will/J Stew massively underperforming, CJ disappointing, Beason IR, Gamble IR, Kalil IR. Sure the injuries arent Hurney's fault but be that as it may, the fact is we have tons and tons of money tied up in dead weight right now.

If I was the new GM the only players I would deem 100% safe off the bat would be Cam, Kuechly and maybe Kalil but only he proves he can play like his old self after his surgery. Gross is aging, Gamble is also aging and got hurt. Oh and Stewie I would keep also.

We all know it's coming. Some of us are sure what it will mean. DLo is gone, Beason is gone, Smith is gone, Johnson is gone, Gross is gone, and 2 years from now, we will be better for it.

Cam will win a Super Bowl in Carolina.

D-lo, probably.

Beason, will depend on how he bounces back and if he will willingly move outside. The middle belongs to Kuechly now. Also depends on if he can still play like he used to. He had a bad year this year.

Smith, possibly. He won't be flatly cut. Whenever Smith is no longer a Panther, it will be on Smith's terms. Bank on that.

Johnson, doubt it.

Gross, doubt it (unless he retires).

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
